Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is pleased to announce the New York premiere of Stephen Karam's new play Sons of the Prophet, will feature Tony Award winner Joanna Gleason, directed by Peter DuBois.

Playwright Jenny Worton is the Artistic Associate of the Almeida Theatre in London. She adapted the play Dolls for the National Theatre of Scotland and served as dramaturg for London's Gate Theatre production of the play Breathing Irregular.

Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director) is proud to announce that Academy Award® nominee Chris Sarandon, Jason Butler Harner and Ben Rosenfield will join Academy Award® and Golden Globe Award® nominee Carey Mulligan in the U.S. premiere of the play THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY, based on the Academy Award® winning Ingmar Bergman film adapted for the stage by Jenny Worton.

Today we lost one of the greats: the gentle giant of directors, Sidney Lumet. What a resume! Just to pick seven of perhaps the best known of the bunch, the bunch in question being over 100 titles strong: 12 ANGRY MEN, LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, SERPICO, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, NETWORK and BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD - the films spanning fifty years from MEN in 1957 and DEVIL in 2007 - it is clear to see why Lumet was one of the most cherished and celebrated directors in Hollywood, especially known for his tough, gritty New York stories and his pristine stage-to-screen transfers. For an excellent example of the latter (in addition to LONG DAY'S JOURNEY and the others) check out DEATHTRAP - based on Ira Levin's play, the longest-running thriller in Broadway history - featuring Michael Caine in one of his best roles and Christopher Reeve and Dyan Cannon in their finest performances on film. For an example of the former genre, look no further than NETWORK, containing one of the strongest screenplays ever penned, from the fiery and ferocious pen of Paddy Cheyefsky, and Faye Dunaway in her Oscar-winning performance for all the ages. As far as theatrical screenplays on screen, Lumet would be hard-pressed to even come close to the power, prescience and transformative brilliance at the core of the conceit of that film - yet he did just that; with his final, 2007 film no less. I am speaking, of course, of the underrated and riveting BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei, with Albert Finney and Rosemary Harris. Taking an original screenplay that could just as well have been written for the stage - shades of 12 ANGRY MEN, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, NETWORK and SERPICO, certainly - Lumet made a bristling, biting brilliant work of staggering craft and ingenuity - all with verve, energy and drive of a man a quarter of his age at the time (80). His films were classics in his own time and, now, in his passing, they are just as timeless - if not more so. With each passing year, new layers of truth, beauty, sadness and soulfulness can be found in the countless frames in the innumerable unforgettable scenes in his many masterpieces.

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, the life of legendary Broadway composer Jerry Bock will be celebrated Monday January 24th at Roundabout's American Airlines Theater (227 West 42nd Street) at 2:30pm. The celebration is open to the public, on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 2pm. The latest list of performers scheduled to appear are Kate Baldwin, Brigid Brady, Susan Cella, Barbara Cook, Harvey Fierstein, Boyd Gaines, Roundabout's Todd Haimes, Bock's longtime collaborator Sheldon Harnick, Hal Linden (and his original Rothschilds' 'sons:' David Garfield, Alan Gruet, Paul Hecht, Tim Jerome and Chris Sarandon), Joe Masteroff, Howard McGillin, Brad Oscar, producer Stuart Ostrow, Austin Pendleton, Lonny Price, Harold Prince, Chita Rivera, Bock's longtime friend and attorney Richard M. Mainstreet Musicals and WBAI-Pacifica will present a benefit evening called MAKING WAVES on Monday, November 8th at The Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street featuring Hal Linden among others. This is Mainstreet Musical's launch event highlighting songs from musicals that have changed minds, turned corners, roused ire, and generally uplifted the human spirit. The benefit evening will include performances by HAL LINDEN, JILL EIKENBERRY, MICHAEL TUCKER, MARY TESTA, DEBORAH MONK, CASS MORGAN, JANE SUMMERHAYS, CHRIS SARANDON, TIM JEROME, WALTER CHARLES, CAROLE DEMAS, K.T. SULLIVAN, DE'ADRE AZIZA and the cast of HAIR among others. The benefit will be directed by Charles Repole. Mainstreet Musicals and WBAI-Pacifica are teaming up to develop a network of local theatre festivals around the country that will introduce award-winning new musicals into communities where they are absent or in short supply. Primary Stages, in association with Ted Snowdon, launched its 26th season with the New York premiere of SECRETS OF THE TRADE by Jonathan Tolins directed by Matt Shakman last night, August 10. The five-member cast features Amy Aquino as Joanne Lipman, Bill Brochtrup as Bradley, John Glover as Martin Kerner, Mark Nelson as Peter Lipman and Noah Robbins as Andrew Lipman.

New Dramatists, Tony Honor recipient and one of the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, honored two-time Tony Award winner Julie Taymor with their 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award at its 61st Annual Spring Luncheon tribute, to be held Tuesday, May 18th at the New York Marriott Marquis. Ms. Taymor's award was presented to her by Academy Award winning actress Helen Mirren, who stars in Taymor's soon-to-be-released film adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatricals served as the Luncheon Chair. Disney Theatricals and Robert Boyett were the benefactors for New Dramatists 61st Annual Spring Luncheon.
