Vice President Joe Biden, Dr. Jill Biden, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, President pro tempore of the Senate Patrick Leahy, House Majority Leader Elect Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, National Security Advisor Susan Rice, actress Debbie Allen, members of Congress and other distinguished guests attended the Ford's Theatre Annual Gala the evening of Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Ford's Theatre (511 10th Street NW). The gala performance was followed by a seated dinner at the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum (750 Ninth Street NW). The evening included the presentation of the Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal to actor James Earl Jones and the U.S. House of Representatives' longest-serving member, The Honorable John D. Dingell. In the TV musical comedy-drama, Glee, the award-winning actress Jane Lynch plays the deliciously evil high school cheerleading coach-turned-principal Sue Sylvester, who is constantly trying to sabotage the efforts of the school's glee club to compete in singing competitions or even exist. It's a good thing nobody tried to prevent Lynch from taking a real-life crack at nightclub singing, as her debut show this past week at 54 Below (the last show is tonight at 8pm) was a delightful breath of cabaret fresh air. On Monday, June 16, The Trevor Project presented "TrevorLIVE" New York hosted by Wanda Sykes at the Marriott Marquis. The evening centered on a fantastic show that was directed by Adam Shankman. The Trevor Project also honored three visionaries who have made a difference in the LGBT community. Arianna Huffington was presented with the Trevor Hero Award, presented by Neil Patrick Harris. The Chief Information Officer and partner at Goldman Sachs, Marty Chavez, accepted the Trevor 20/20 Visionary Award on behalf of Goldman Sachs, which was presented by Zac Posen. The Trevor Youth Innovator Award presented by Wells Fargo was given to YouTube sensation Tyler Oakley. This annual red carpet event benefits the life-saving, life-affirming work of The Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) teens and young adults. Musician/composer/lyricist Michael Patrick Walker is world premiering a new musical Dog and Pony at the Old Globe in San Diego. Walker is best known as one of the composers of the hit musical Altar Boyz. He was nominated for a 2005 Lucille Lortel Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical and for two 2005 Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and for Best Lyrics for Altar Boyz. The show also won the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical. Cheyenne Jackson has starred on both 30 Rock opposite Tina Fey and Glee where he played the voice coach for the group Vocal Adrenaline, and will next be seen starring opposite Gena Rowlands in the feature film "Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks" releasing in theaters in early 2014.
