Red Bull Theater today announced that their Twelfth Season will conclude with Red Bull Theater's annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes features two brand new commissions from Lisa D'Amour and Amy Freed alongside 6 brand new plays chosen from hundreds of submissions from playwrights across the country. The 2016 Short New Play Festival will be Monday July 25th (7:30pm) at Lucille Lortel Theatre. Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj, produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie AwardŽ for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney each received a special Obie AwardŽ for Lifetime Achievement. Obie and Screen Actors GuildŽ Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria returned as host of this year's ceremony, which was held at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). (more...)
