Sesame Street Visits Lincoln Center This April; Accessible Through YouTube

In April, the iconic children's television series Sesame Street –broadcast in more than 150 countries and seen by over 120 million international viewers—will visit another icon, Lincoln Center, the world's largest performing arts center, on its popular “People in Your Neighborhood” segment. Inspired by the classic Sesame Street song “The People in Your Neighborhood,” Murray Monster goes on location to interview real people about their jobs. The Lincoln Center segments will showcase the New York City Ballet, The Juilliard School, the New York Philharmonic, and the Metropolitan Opera. Sesame Street airs regularly on PBS (check local listings), and the first Lincoln Center segment, “People in Your Neighborhood: Ballet Dancer,” airs April 4th. Each segment will also be accessible on Sesame Street's YouTube Channel in advance of its air date.

The pre-production feature film Facing East released a Kickstarter Campaign today (Wednesday November 14, 2012). Facing East is directed by Tony nominated Broadway actor Will Swenson (Hair, Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and is written by noted queer cinema veteran Guinevere Turner (Go Fish, American Psycho, The Notorious Bettie Page) from an off-Broadway play by author Carol Lynn Pearson (author of the books Goodbye I Love You and No More Goodbyes), and produced by Duane Andersen, James Duke Mason and Emily Pearson. The campaign offers unique rewards targeted at fans of Mr. Swenson and his wife, five time Tony winner, Audra McDonald, including autographed memorabilia, the opportunity to have lunch with the couple, or to have Ms. McDonald sing to you over the phone on your birthday, or to have Mr. Swenson serenade you publicly.

As Houstonians gear up for Theater LaB's special event and Regional Premiere of MISSIONARY POSITION, the second part of Steven Fales' Mormon Boy Trilogy, Steven Fales is busy in Salt Lake City. He tells me he is thrilled to be returning to Houston, especially since CONFESSIONS OF A MORMON BOY sold out before he arrived in town when he premiered the show in the region. He noted that Houston audiences loved it, and really hopes that Houston audiences will eat up MISSIONARY POSTION as well. He feels that the time in right with Romney running for president because audiences will get to see "Mormon Temple ceremonies from an insider and not someone making fun of the church from the outside."

PRISCILLA's WIll Swenson Directs FACING EAST Mormon Film

The New York Times reports today that Will Swenson (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Hair) will direct independent feature film adaptation of Carol Lynn Pearson's play 'Facing East.' Pearson is also writing the screenplay. The play centers on a family's struggle to come to terms with their Morman faith after losing their gay son to suicide. The subject mater is not far from Swenson's heart, as he witnessed similar struggles within his own childhood Mormon community. Say Swenson of the project: 'Getting through my own adolescence as a young Mormon was challenging as it was, but watching my best friend struggle with his identity as a gay teenager was heartbreaking.'
