It explores the impact of modern warfare on soldiers, their families and communities across the U.S.A. Garth Fagan Dance Comes to Ebony Rep, 10/3-5

Ebony Repertory Theatre announced today that Garth Fagan Dance will return to Los Angeles after an absence of ten years. The company's program includes the Los Angeles premiere of excerpts from 'Lighthouse/Lightning Rod,' a collaboration of the company's Founder/Artistic Director Garth Fagan, Wynton Marsalis and California-based visual artist Alison Saar. 'Lighthouse' opened the Brooklyn Academy Of Music season in 2012. Performances at the 400-seat Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (4718 W. Washington Blvd.) in Los Angeles will run October 3-5, 2014. Astrograss to Play Jewish Museum, 10/12

The kids bluegrass band Astrograss will perform a concert for families on Sunday, October 12 at 11:30 am at The Jewish Museum. Presenting a rich blend of bluegrass, old-time, and folk music, Astrograss will lead the audience in sing-alongs to traditional classics and high-energy fiddle hoedowns. The band will also perform tunes from their 2012 album, Colored Pencil Factory, as well as songs celebrating the natural world in honor of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. (more...)

LA Master Chorale to Perform VOICES OF LIGHT at Walt Disney Concert Hall, 10/19

The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), led by Artistic Director Grant Gershon, launches the 2014|15 season, its 51st, with a spectacular multi-faceted cinematic and aural event featuring the Walt Disney Concert Hall premiere of Richard Einhorn's "brilliantly effective" (Washington Post) 1994 work Voices of Light/The Passion of Joan of Arc, inspired by and performed live to the 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc. Einhorn's evocative piece, written for orchestra, chorus and soloists, provides a haunting backdrop to the rarely seen restored version of Carl Dreyer's cinematic masterpiece, considered by many critics to be among the top films ever made. Roulette presents Interpretations featuring selections from John King's Free Palestine, with A Secret Quartet (Cornelius Dufallo, Jennifer Choi, violins; Lev Zhurbin, viola; Yves Dharamraj, cello). Using materials derived from the Arabic systems of pitch and rhythm, maqam'at and iqa'at, each particular composition uses indeterminacy and improvisation to organize sound and time, thereby providing energetic and visceral motifs encompassing the full range of expression possible from a string quartet. Spring 2015's Elite Dance Tournament to Award Apprenticeship with Complexions Contemporary Ballet

Joffrey Ballet School, a world-renowned dance center offering the most versatile and highest quality training, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet, known for their, partner to launch the first annual Elite Dance Tournament. The new national competition, which is focused on educational empowerment through constructive evaluation, will take place in six cities with a variety of master classes and focus on ballet, jazz and contemporary styles. In its inaugural year, the tournament will provide an apprenticeship with Complexions Dance Company; a full- time position with the Joffrey Concert Group; and $180,000 in cash and scholarships, including $10,000 each for the ultimate dancer, studio and choreographer. The Old Globe's QUARTET Extends Through August 31

The Old Globe today announced additional performances for the third production of the 2014 Summer Season, Ronald Harwood's comedy Quartet, directed by Richard Seer (Other Desert Cities, God of Carnage, The Last Romance). Harwood received an Academy Award for his screenplay of The Pianist and was nominated for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Dresser (also a hit on Broadway and the West End).
