Members of Columbia High School's talented student population, and several musical alumnae, will be spotlighted throughout the evening at The South Orange Performing Arts Center 2015 Gala on Saturday, May 30th.  Honoring "Coach" Johanna Wright, former Mayor Fred Profeta and philanthropist Paul Profeta for their contributions to promoting the arts, the theme of "Arts and Education" is central to the evening's festivities.

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra will begin its summer series at Riverbend Music Center's Corbett Pavilion on Saturday, June 6 at 8 p.m. with a special 'Broadway Sing-Along' featuring classic Broadway hits and inviting the audience to sing along.

Earlier this month, The New York Pops marked its 32nd birthday with a grand gala evening celebrating the work of Music Honorees Kathleen Marshall and Rob Marshall and Corporate Honoree Carrie and Ted Pryor, Greenwich Harbor Partners. The event began with a concert at Carnegie Hall, featuring a spectacular lineup of guest artists under the baton of Music Director Steven Reineke. The performance highlighted the Marshalls' work on stage and screen. Queen Latifahjoined Broadway stars Laura Benanti, Alan Cumming, Sutton Foster, Victor Garber, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Bebe Neuwirth, Kelli O'Hara, Margo Seibert, James Snyder, and Rachel York. Tickets for the West End production of Motown the Musical, opening at the Shaftesbury Theatre in February 2016, are released for sale today (15 May 2015).  With music and lyrics from the legendary Motown catalogue and book by Motown founder Berry Gordy, Motown the Musical is directed by Charles Randolph-Wright.  London previews will begin on 11 February 2016 with press night on 8 March 2016 with the show booking to 22 October 2016.  Casting and further information about Motown the Musical will be released shortly.

It's getting harder for many people in the Arts to feel creative and nurtured as an Artist, as modern culture seems to be celebrating quick disposable 'stars.' It's been said, New York City is not a place to find yourself as an Artist! In the past you could find cheap housing, cheap food, and cheap drinks. Cheap, is that too crude? The Actors Fund's annual gala last night, May 11, 2015 honored Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman and three-term mayor of New York City, entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Bloomberg and Freeman received The Fund's Medal of Honor, the highest award given by the 133-year old non-profit human services organization serving everyone in performing arts and entertainment.
