Yesterday afternoon, the 2013 Tony Award nominees celebrated the week of the the 67th Annual Tony Awards (which will air live on CBS on Sunday, June 9th) at New York City's biggest landmark- the Empire State Building. Attendees included: Bertie Carvel, Carrie Coon, Charl Brown, Gabriel Ebert, Judith Light, Justin Paul & Benj Pasek, Keala Settle, Laura Osnes, Lauren Ward, Patina Miller, Richard Kind, Rob McClure, Santino Fontana, Shalita Grant, Stark Sands, Stephanie J. The Tony Awards are now less than a month away, and I've really been enjoying revisiting memories, cast albums, and even shows themselves since the nominations were announced! A few days ago I posted my thoughts on the Best Score, Book, Musicals and Plays. Today, here are my feelings in the acting categories.

Shalita Grant recently nabbed a Tony nomination for her Broadway debut in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Grant's Off-Broadway credits include Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (LCT); The Philanderer (Pearl Theatre); Measure for Measure,The Winter's Tale, The Merchant of Venice (The Public Theater) and Roxy Font (FringeNYC). On film she has appeared in Empire Corner, Invisible and Rehearsing a Dream and guest starred on the CBS drama series The Good Wife.

New Dramatists, Tony Honor recipient and the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, honored entertainment lawyer and New Dramatists Chairman of the Board Seth Gelblum with their 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award at its 64th Annual Spring Luncheon tribute, held today, May 21 at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Producers Joey Parnes and Larry Hirschhorn announced today that Christopher Durang's new comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, will extend its premiere Broadway engagement at the Golden Theatre by four weeks due to popular demand.

The New York City Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association offered a Thursday, May 2, 2013 performance of Broadway's VANYA and SONIA and MASHA and SPIKE, the new comedy by Christopher Durang starring Tony and Emmy Award Winner David Hyde Pierce and Tony and Academy Award nominee Sigourney Weaver. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will support the free programs and services offered by the New York City Chapter, as well as research. Sundance Institute just presented playwright and Sundance Institute Theatre Lab alum Branden Jacobs-Jenkins with the first-ever Tennessee Williams Award from the Institute's Theatre Program, which supports the development of new work for the stage. Sundance Institute Emeritus Trustee Sally Field presented the honor and accompanying $10,000 grant at the Celebrate Sundance Institute benefit for its Theatre Program last night at Stephan Weiss Studio in Greenwich Village.
