Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Executive Director) will present Lesser America's World Premiere of Nick Jones' (Jollyship the Whiz-bang with Ars Nova/The Public; The Coward with Lincoln Center) Trevor, tonight, February 28-March 17 at Theater for the New City (155 1st Avenue between 9th and 10th Street).

Broadway luminaries and Riverdale's most talented performers will join forces for a 25th Anniversary concert production of Stephen Sondheim's classic fairy tale musical INTO THE WOODS, to be performed at the Riverdale YM-YWHA on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 8pm.

Vermont's award-winning Weston Playhouse Theatre Company has announced its 2013 season of shows - a sweeping collection of modern classics and emergent theatrical work. Weston's Resident Producing Director Steve Stettler says the new season is 'populated by a collection of dreamers whose stories will send you out of the theatre full of hope.'

The production will be directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God with EST; My Base and Scurvy Heart with Studio 42) and will feature Steven Boyer* (Hand to God; Jollyship the Whiz-Bang), Geneva Carr* (Hand to God; Boise), Nathaniel Kent (The Three Seagulls at HERE; Doctor Faustus at The Brick), Andy Nogasky*, Shawn Randall* (Big Tex at EST; Blue Man Group), Amy Staats* (One Thing I Like To Say Is with Clubbed Thumb) and Colleen Werthmann* (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson; The Mistakes Madeline Made). As the nation faces an new civil rights battle, homosexuality is a topic that many have opinions about. Country Playhouse is taking audiences back to an era before the Stonewall Riots and before the AIDS epidemic, showcasing the struggles that afflicted homosexuals in the 1960s. As 2013 opens, Country Playhouse is producing Mart Crowley's seminal and classic 1968 play THE BOYS IN THE BAND. The play is set in an Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan, and in a very WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRIGINA WOOLF style, reminds or introduces audiences to a time when the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders included homosexuality in addition to the self-loathing and lack of self-confidence experienced among the homosexual community in that period.

The Country Playhouse will present The Boys in the Band by Mart Crowley, in the Cerwinske Stage for three weekends only, tonight, January 11 - 26. Performances are todays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on January 20 at 2:00 p.m., plus a weeknight show on Thursday, January 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Today we are talking to a tremendously talented triple-threat star all about her many recent and upcoming endeavors, including the forthcoming feature films ADDICTED, 1982 and THE LAST LETTER, as well as the pilot for a new TV series, GUILTY, and, of course, her debut solo album project - the magnetic and beautiful Sharon Leal. In addition to discussing many aspects of her films to date and her starry assortment of co-stars and collaborators on them - Jennifer Hudson, Bill Condon, Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson, Pam Grier, Chris Brown, McG and Cuba Gooding, Jr. included - Leal and I also discuss her theatrically-attuned work thus far in her career, having appeared on Broadway in RENT, as well as in starring in BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY, regional work and in a prominent featured role as part of the big screen film adaptation of DREAMGIRLS. Plus, Leal recounts her fruitful artistic and romantic relationship with recent fellow InDepth InterView participant, choreographer/director Paul Becker, and also outlines her plans for the future, near and far, as she anticipates continuing work on her solo album project and promoting her many current projects while taking a temporary holiday break - all of that and much, much more awaits!

The Country Playhouse is presenting Charles Marowitz's MURDERING MARLOWE in their Black Box Theatre. With a healthy dose of elevated Elizabethan language and speculative fiction, the play tells the story of jealousy run awry. William Shakespeare, a fledgling artist, takes advantage of the government's disgust at Christopher Marlowe's sexual tastes and written blasphemies, and seeks to overthrow the successful playwright. He longs to claim Marlowe's spot as his own and this eventually leads to the murder of Christopher Marlowe in a pub in Deptford, England.

Moss's (punkplay, House of Gold) BILLY WITCH, choreographed by Wendy Seyb (The Pee Wee Herman Show, Yeast Nation), with original music by Nathan A. Roberts, musical direction by Brenna Sage and directed by Erik Pearson (Billy Witch, Studio 42). BILLY WITCH will play a limited engagement at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (30-44 Crescent St, Astoria, NY. Entrance on 30th Road.) Performances begin tonight, November 1 and continue through Saturday, November 17. Opening Night is Saturday, November 3 (8 p.m.).

I love horror. Since I was a kid I've been obsessed with horror films - one of the greatest, of course, being H.P. Lovecraft's Re-Animator. As a teen, it was eye-opening to say the least to see the terrible (and terribly funny) things happening on that screen.
