The Art Institute of Chicago has announced the appointment of Susanne Ghez, former executive director and chief curator of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, as Adjunct Curator in the Department of Contemporary Art, effective immediately. In this capacity, Ghez will bring her seasoned expertise in contemporary art to all aspects of the museum's engagement with the field, including exhibitions, acquisitions, and collections. She will represent the museum in Chicago, around the country, and abroad, traveling widely to visit contemporary artists and institutions, and engaging on behalf of the Art Institute in global contemporary programming. Since the birth of photography in 1839, artists have used the medium to explore subjects close to home-the quotidian, intimate, and overlooked aspects of everyday existence. Everyday Epiphanies: Photography and Daily Life Since 1969, an exhibition of 40 works at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, presents photographs and videos from the last four decades that examine these ordinary moments. The ninth annual From the Top Gala fundraiser, UNIQUE AND UNMISSABLE, will take place tonight, May 22 at 6:30 PM at the Back Bay Events Center (180 Berkeley Street, Boston). The evening will include performances by the nation's outstanding young classical musicians with From the Top host and renowned concert pianist Christopher O'Riley. Jonathan Batiste and The Stay Human Band from New York, NY will be featured throughout the evening. The owner of a failing jazz club seeks to save what her grandfather built, inspiring those around her to chase their dreams. Twelve visually impaired actors and musicians take the stage in Yesterday's, an original comedy created and performed by Theatre by the Blind, the country's only theater troupe composed entirely of blind actors. Created by the ensemble, co-written by Colin Simson and Lindsay Nyman, co-directed by Greg Shane and Lindsay Nyman, and presented by CRE Outreach, Yesterday's will run April 18 through May 5 at the Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica.
