The Public Theater announced today that Elevator Repair Service's acclaimed THE SOUND AND THE FURY will be remounted by Elevator Repair Service at The Public this spring. Directed by John Collins, THE SOUND AND THE FURY begins performances in The Public's Martinson Theater on Thursday, May 14 and run through Saturday, June 13, with an official press opening on Thursday, May 21. THE SOUND AND THE FURY will mark the third collaboration between The Public and Elevator Repair Service, having previously presented Gatz and Arguendo. October is an auspicious month to make this announcement, as it marks the 85th anniversary of the original publication date of William Faulkner's masterpiece. (more...)

Big winners for the night included Audra McDonald, Bryan Cranston, Jessie Mueller, and Neil Patrick Harris and Jefferson Mays- who tied for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. "Mr. Chief Justice, may it please the court," is the opening every lawyer states before presenting oral arguments. When Arguendo at Woolly Mammoth Theatre keeps its focus on the oral arguments of Barnes v. Glen Theatre Inc., the show is praiseworthy on many levels. But when the Arguendo becomes distracted, it not only fails to please the court, it loses on appeal. (more...)

The Sheen Center - a brand new arts center located on the corner of Bleecker and Elizabeth Streets (18 Bleecker Street) in Manhattan, consisting of two state-of-the-art theater spaces (the 250-seat Loretto Auditorium and the 93-seat Black Box), four studios and an art gallery - is currently completing construction and scheduled for a soft opening on May 1, 2014 and a full opening season beginning September 2014, it has been announced by The Sheen Center's Artistic Director Jessica Bashline and Executive Director Monsignor Michael F. Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company will present Elevator Repair Service's Arguendo, a playful and incisively witty theatricalization of the 1991 Supreme Court case in which a group of go-go dancers, citing the First Amendment, challenged an Indiana state ban on public nudity. Elevator Repair Service's Artistic Director John Collins will direct the Company in its first extended stay in Washington, DC. Originally slated to close April 20, Arguendo will be extended for an additional weekend, performing April 25-27. (more...)
