Theater Resources Unlimited Seeks Submissions for 2014 TRU VOICES New Musicals Reading Series; Deadline 8/8

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) seeks submissions for the 14th Annual TRU Voices New Musicals Reading Series. Writers, producers and theater companies are welcome to submit new musicals for consideration in the developmental series. Non members may submit to the TRU Voices New Musicals Series (completed musicals only) for a $25 fee. The deadline for submission is August 8, 2014 (deadline is extended to August 15th for TRU members and shows with a producer attached). (more...)

Tom Dugan's WIESENTHAL to Begin Performances 10/24 at Theatre Row

Tony Award winner Daryl Roth (Kinky Boots, The Normal Heart) and Karyl Lynn Burns (The Best is Yet to Come) present the New York premiere of Wiesenthal, the award-winning play written by and starring Tom Dugan and directed by Jenny Sullivan. Wiesenthal launches a limited 14-week engagement, from October 24 through February 1, at the Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row, (410 W. 42nd Street). Opening night is November 5. (more...)

The Colony Theatre is thrilled to present the first production of its historic 40thAnniversary season, the World Premiere of FAMILY PLANNING by Michelle Kholos Brooks. The production stars Christina Pickles and Bruce Weitz, who between them have a combined total of 14 Emmy nominations, and is directed by Cameron Watson, who has been heralded as "one of our finest contemporary directors" by The Los Angeles Times, while The Wall Street Journal declared his work "the best in the country." La Jolla Playhouse announces a new production for its 2014/2015 season: The Darrell Hammond Project, written by Saturday Night Live star Darrell Hammond and Elizabeth Stein and directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley. The hysterical new musical Academia Nuts has been selected to kick off the first week of the celebrated New York Musical Theatre Festival with performances from July 9-13, 2014 at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street). Academia Nuts has book and lyrics by Becca Anderson & Dan Marshall, and music by Julian Blackmore, with direction by Thomas Caruso, musical direction by Martyn Axe, and choreography by Ryan Kasprzak. Stages, A Children's Theatre Workshop, Inc., brings back a Once Upon a Mattress to Bay Street. Fifty-four years ago, Once Upon a Mattress, a romantic and hilarious musical version of 'The Princess and the Pea', opened on Broadway to the delight of theatergoers young and old. It won the hearts of its audiences with an inventive and raucous twist on the old story. Stages, is excited to present this fractured fairy tale at the Bay Street Theatre today, May 10, at 2pm and 7:30pm; and Sunday, May 11, at 2pm. And in celebration of Mother's Day on May 11, all mothers will be Queen-for-a-day, with a crown compliments of Stages. (more...)
