Exeter Northcott Theatre Announces Fall 2014 Season

Howard County Arts Council Receives PNC Foundation Grant

The Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) has been awarded a $12,000 PNC Grow Up Great grant from the PNC Foundation for its Head StART in ART program. This grant will allow the Arts Council to continue the Head StART in ART program at the Tubman Head Start Center in Columbia for the 2014-2015 school year. (more...)

Artist Cecil Balmond to Design Sculpture at Mesa Arts Center

Mesa Arts Center announces the selection of internationally-acclaimed artist Cecil Balmond to design its 21st Century Café Society shade sculpture project. The structural fluidity of this monumental work will provide permanent shade over a community gathering place and connect the internationally-renowned Mesa Art Center campus with Main Street in Downtown Mesa. Following a Public Art Request for Qualifications, jurors chose Balmond's winning concept from an impressive group of three finalists who were invited to submit designs. (more...)

Howard County Arts Council Seeking Artists for Head StART in ART Residencies

Visual and performing artists are needed for residencies for the Head StART in ART program for the 2014-2015 school year. Residencies will take place at the Ellicott City Head Start Center or the Tubman Head Start Center in Columbia. Artists seeking a residency must have experience working with children; experience with pre-K is preferred. The performing artist residency will conclude with performances by the Head Start children. The visual artist residency will conclude with the completion of an art project for display at their Head Start Center or individual projects for students to take home. Swamp Gravy, Georgia's Official Folk Life Play Announces New Ticket Prices for 2014-2015 Season

In 2009, the Colquitt/Miller Arts Council introduced online ticketing to make the ticket buying experience more convenient for patrons, and in the process raised the Swamp Gravy ticket price from $22 to $26.56. For the 2014-2015 season, the Arts Council has increased its local box office hours and staff, as well as return the price of tickets to the pre-2009 level. (more...)

The Reading Theater Project to Present SPEAKEASY, 8/30-9/7

The Reading Theater Project has created a new play, Speakeasy, based on the history of Reading during the national prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s and 1930s. Performances will take place at the Olympian Ballroom at 603 Penn Avenue in West Reading. Opening night is August 30, 2014 at 8pm and the play runs through September 7, 2014. (more...)

Arena Stage Selects John Strand as Resident Playwright

Artistic Director Molly Smith announces D.C.-area based playwright John Strand will join Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater for a yearlong playwright residency as part of the American Voices New Play Institute, effective this month through June 2015. Through the residency Strand will receive a salary; health benefits; a budget to be used at his discretion to cover collaborator fees, workshop costs and research expenses to support his new play development process; and a commitment from Arena Stage to produce a new work in a future season and to continue cultivating an ongoing, long-term relationship.
