NextStop Theatre Company completes its inaugural main stage season with an ambitious new production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, running May 1-June 1, 2014. Directed by NextStop's Artistic Director Evan Hoffmann, the production will feature a cast of seventeen and a ten-piece orchestra in the company's intimate 114-seat black box theater in Herndon, VA.

MCC THEATER has announced that the annual Miscast 2014 gala has added Billy Porter, Jeremy Jordan, Megan Hilty, and Raul Esparza as performers, joining the previously announced Zosia Mamet, Christian Borle, Anika Noni Rose, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Steven Pasquale, Jesse L. Martin, Sasha Allen, Keala Settle, and Nicole Parker. Phil Reno will serve as Musical Director. Additional performers will be announced at a later date. Miscast 2014 will be held Monday, March 31, 2014 at The Hammerstein Ballroom (311 West 34th Street). The evening will begin with a cocktail hour and gala dinner followed by the Miscast performances. Gala and show-only tickets are now on sale at www.mcctheater.org.

After two weeks of appropriately vague themes allowed the neophyte contestants to explore their individual artistry, I became more than a little apprehensive when Ryan said the top-11 would be singing the “Songs of the Cinema.” The lame OCEAN'S ELEVEN cold open, completed by the cheesiest “This is AMERICAN IDOL” ever to come out of Seacrest's mouth, made me worry that this could be a cheesetastic disaster. However, I forgot that the majority of this year's remaining contestants have shown a surprising talent for avoiding the cliché, and made this the best week of IDOL all season!

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, handed out top honors to 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and Nebraska at this afternoon's 29th Film Independent Spirit Awards. Blue Jasmine, Fruitvale Station, Blue is the Warmest Color, Short Term 12, This is Martin Bonner and 20 Feet From Stardom also received awards at the ceremony, which is held in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica.

Acclaimed and renowned American musical theatre composer Jason Robert Brown will present a benefit cabaret entitled 'I Could Be In Love With Someone Like You' on Monday, March 17 to kick of Red Branch Theatre Company's 2014 season. Howard County restaurant Iron Bridge Wine Company will cater the affair with Irish-themed favorites in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Proceeds will benefit Red Branch Theatre Company's annual operating budget. This promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime event given the opportunity to see this prominent composer in a rare concert appearance in the theatre's intimate, 100-seat space. To top off the cabaret, Mr. Brown will accompany alums of TYA, Drama Learning Center's teen professional company, and the casts of The Love/Loss Cycle in one of his compositions during the evening's performance.
