Broadway dreams came true for sixty-four students from across the country when they perform alongside their Broadway idols in BDF's Circle of Dreams NYC Showcase at New World Stages. BDF teaches the next generation of musical theater performers how to kick start their career through unique, week-long performance intensives taught by Broadway's brightest stars and savvy industry insiders. Sixty-four exceptional students were nominated from each of the six cities BDF visited this summer to showcase their talents before an audience of the industry's top casting directors, agents and directors. The Broadway Dreams Foundation's 'Circle of Dreams NYC Showcase,' directed by Olivier Award-nominated director Stafford Arima, featured Broadway favorites Tituss Burgess, Joey Contreras, Craig D'Amico, Greg Graham, Deidre Goodwin, Tyler Hanes, Greg Haney, Luke Hawkins, Syke Mattox, Liz McCartney, Nancy Opel, Nicholas Rodriguez and Matthew Scott. Pace University's LYSISTRATA JONES Continues Through 11/17

Lysistrata Jones gets back in the game! This time at Pace University. A modern retelling of Aristophanes's 411 B.C. comedy, Lysistrata, Lysistrata Jones tells the story of a group of college cheerleaders refusing to "give it up" until their boyfriends win a basketball game. Penned by Tony Award Nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Cinderella, The Little Dog Laughed, Sister Act, As Bees in Honey Drown) with music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn, this pop musical is presented by PACE University's BFA Musical Theater Program headed by Amy Rogers. On Friday, August 9, 2013 The Broadway Dreams Foundation presented the first annual Women in the Performing Arts Symposium, a celebration of the vibrant, creative women who share their passion through artistic expression. Sponsored by Bernstein Global Wealth Management, this first symposium focused on women who make a difference through their efforts to create, sustain, and grow performing arts education and featuring an expert panel of women taking a closer look at the current financial state of the educational and professional arts environment. Moderated by acclaimed playwright Theresa Rebeck, the panel included Anne Bucciarelli (Bernstein Global Wealth Management), Victoria Bussert (Baldwin-Wallace University), Mariann Cook (Rider University), Kaitlin Hopkins (Texas State), Barbara Mackenzie-Wood (Carnegie Mellon), Catherine McNeela (Elon University) and Amy Rogers(Pace). Broadway's Danny Quadrino (Bye Bye Birdie), Andrea Ross (Whistle Down The Wind) and Lindsey Carothers (Bring It On) are among the cast of Pace University students for a one night only concert of songs and monologues by award-winning theater writer Drew Fornarola (COLLEGE The Musical, Molly Shannon's Tilly The Trickster). The show plays at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre (61 Christopher Street at 7th Ave) tonight, April 22nd at 9:30pm. The evening is curated and directed by Joshua W. Kelley, with music direction by Addison O'Donnell, and stage managed by Coleman Annison. (more...)
