BWW EXCLUSIVE: Steve Buscemi On ISSUE PROJECT ROOM, BOARDWALK, SOPRANOS, ON THE ROAD & More
by Pat Cerasaro - Mar 4, 2011

Last week I had the exceptional privilege of interviewing newly minted SAG and Golden Globe-winner for Best Actor In A Drama Series for his work on HBO'S BOARDWALK EMPIRE, Steve Buscemi, along with his wife, artist/choreographer Jo Andres, about their participation in the experimental music/theater space in Brooklyn, ISSUE Project Room. For those that are not aware, ISSUE Project Room is a community performance space for up-and-coming musicians, artists, performers and choreographers at 110 Livingston Street with the goal of creating a centralized space for all the arts - avant garde and otherwise. In addition to discussing their shared beginnings in the fringe theatre scene in the East Village in the eighties and the artists who inspired them, Buscemi and Andres also talk about the ultimate goals of the venue, both new and old, and the reason that now is the perfect time for a space such as this to flourish, as new artists get the opportunity to see their work produced. Further information about the venue - and how you can become a member - can be found here.

The Town Hall Holds 90th Anniversary Essay Contest

Founded as a lecture hall for discussing pressing political issues, The Town Hall developed from an intellectual forum into a legendary venue for artists and entertainers. As a New York City landmark, The Town Hall was unrivaled in its acoustics; the sight lines and remarkable intimacy of the auditorium inspired speakers and artists, both new and experienced, while having a positive effect on audience reception. No matter the instrument, the voice, or the agenda, The Town Hall established itself as the place, second to none, for a performer to make a New York debut.

Adam Shankman Confirms Tom Cruise for ROCK OF AGES Film
by Jessica Lewis - Feb 22, 2011

After months of speculation, ROCK OF AGES film director Adam Shankman has confrimed that Tom Cruise has officially begun work as Stacee Jaxx. He tells the Toronto Sun: 'I think we're going to see him every drop the rock'n'roll god. He's pouring himself in this part in a way I've never had an actor do. It's pretty intense. Between the voice lessons, the incredible study... researching the period, it's like 1987, just going there!'

BWW Reviews: ROCK OF AGES Comes Home to L.A.
by Michael L. Quintos - Feb 21, 2011

When did the Pantages Theatre turn into a nostalgia rock concert venue? 2011 so far has featured 60's-set HAIR and the 1891 emo rockers of SPRING AWAKENING and now, it plays host to the national tour of ROCK OF AGES, the surprising yet undeniably hilarious Tony-nominated jukebox musical that features a conveyor belt of rock hits from the biggest hair bands of the 1980's. This affectionately low-brow but impressively entertaining show charms the leather pants of its audience thanks to its wicked humor, its self-effacing references, plenty of nostalgic sight-gags, and, of course, those ubiquitous 80's tunes most of us won't admit to really liking. Playing at the Pantages through February 27 (then at the Segerstrom Center of the Arts in Orange County, March 1-6), it's certainly a show chock-full of guilty pleasures.
