The 48th season of the popular Highlights In Jazz series gets off to a roaring start on Feb. 13, 2020, when producer Jack Kleinsinger presents the Highlights In Jazz 47th Anniversary Gala. Featured performers include bassist Jay Leonhart, pianist Tomoko Ohno, drummer Bobby Sanabria, saxophonist Steve Wilson, percussionist/drummer Memo Acevedo, violinist/mandolinist Aaron Weinstein, and drummer Vito Lesczak. And, in keeping with the beloved HIJ tradition, a surprise special guest will be on hand for the concert, held at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center.

Iconic actress, Tony award winner Linda Lavin has a new act and, soon, a new cd to go with it. Two shows at Birdland Theater this week make it clear that Lavin is here to stay.

Throughout its extensive history, the Highlights In Jazz series has made a practice of presenting a spectrum of the most beloved and admired jazz players on the scene. The upcoming 2020 season is no exception, with the exciting four-concert series bringing together stellar musicians including Jimmy Cobb, Jay Leonhart, Bernard Purdie, Art Baron, Russell Malone and others. Count on hearing unforgettable performances from Wycliffe Gordon, Peter and Will Anderson, Victor Lewis, Eddie Daniels, joined by an array of greats.

Tony winner Linda Lavin brings a brand new show to the Birdland Theater for the holidays. But this time, she's singing no sad songs, because Linda Lavin has NO MORE BLUES!

Making his world debut as a recording artist and cabaret singer, Dr. Mike Winters wows with his unique vocals and pure stylings. It was a night to remember for everyone who got in on the ground floor of this new fan base.

Acclaimed singer/pianist Billy Stritch returned to the Birdland Theater stage on Wednesday, October 17, with two shows. The Grammy-nominated performer entertained with a selection of jazz, popular standards and bossa nova by a range of songwriters including Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen, Michel Legrand and the Bergmans, and Brazilian composers Antonio Carlos Jobim and Ivan Lins.

She won the triple crown- Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her heart -breaking performance in Neil Simon's 'Broadway Bound'. She is known to million of fans as 'Alice' on her 9 -year ground breaking TV Series for which she won two Golden Globes. Celebrated playwrights Nicky Silver, Donald Margulies, Richard Greenberg and Charles Busch have written memorable and award winning roles for her. This renaissance woman does everything.

The 13th season continued on April 30th with SHAW SONGS, a festive cabaret evening of songs that George Bernard Shaw played, sang, and enjoyed (1856-1950). Marcia Milgrom Dodge directs with Paul Staroba serving as Musical Director.

On Sunday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m., Axelrod Performing Arts Center presents Let's Face the Music…The Timeless Songs of Fred Astaire featuring vocalists Danny Bacher and Alexis Cole, performing with an all-star jazz band led by Dr. Art Topilow on piano, with Aaron Weinstein on violin, Mike Lee on saxophone, Doug Clarke on guitar, Rudy Petschauer on percussion and Gary Mazzaroppi on bass. Special guests: two leading Broadway dancers, Cory Lingner ("On the Town," "American in Paris") and Eloise Kropp ("Dames at Sea," "CATS") choreographed by Gabriel Chajnik and Andrew Black.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was thrilled to present veteran jazz vocalist Cheryl Bentyne, who celebrated her new CD, reARRANGEMENTS OF SHADOWS, a tribute to Stephen Sondheim.

Cheryl Bentyne has her standards.  In fact, along with her superstar vocal group The Manhattan Transfer, she has co-created some of the most iconic songs, arrangements and performances in the history of jazz and popular music.  Recordings of 'Twilight Zone,' 'Operator,' 'Java Jive,' 'Boy From New York City,' 'Tuxedo Junction,' and the iconic 'Birdland' have proven that a good singer shouldn't be confined to one specific style. 

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that veteran jazz vocalist Cheryl Bentyne will perform on the iconic stage Monday, March 5 at 7pm.  The concert will celebrate the singer's new CD, reARRANGEMENTS OF SHADOWS, a tribute to Stephen Sondheim.
