Music Mountain to Present Shanghai String Quartet in Labor Day Concerts, 9/5-6

America's Oldest Continuing Summer Chamber Music Festival, Music Mountain, continues its 86th season with a special Labor Day Benefit Concert and Reception on Sunday, September 6 (3PM) featuring the Shanghai String Quartet with guest artists Gilbert Kalish, piano and Music Mountain's Musical Director Jonathan Yates, piano performing the music of Brahms and Beethoven. Today evening, September 5 (6:30pm), the Shanghai String Quartet will play the music of Beethoven and Haydn. This weekend's benefit concert creates the opportunity for Music Mountain to do what it prides itself on - bringing live music to listeners of all ages. This year, an unprecedented number of chamber musicians, jazz, and country bands have come to Gordon Hall to delight audiences and expose them to an array of music genres. There is still more music to hear! Concerts will continue thru September 27.

Pianist Angela Cheng to Open CMSD Oakland University Series, 9/20

Canadian pianist Angela Cheng opens the Chamber Music Society of Detroit's third annual Oakland University season series Sunday, September 20 at 3 PM. The concert takes place at Varner Recital Hall, located on the campus of Oakland University at 2200 N Squirrel Road in Rochester. Ms. Cheng will perform Haydn's Sonata No. 60 in C major, Prokofiev's Sonata No. 2 in D minor, and three works by Chopin, the Polonaise-Fantasie, Op. 61 and Ballade Nos. 1 in G minor and 4 in F minor. Vocalist Gary Crawford burst onto the New York cabaret scene like a "thunderbolt" in October 2014 with his debut show 'In Love With Love' at the Metropolitan Room. With the veteran Music Director and Arranger Maestro Barry Levitt at the piano, Crawford produced a captivating show that earned him rave reviews from BroadwayWorld.com and Cabaret Scenes Magazine and ultimately a 2014 Manhattan Association of Cabaret & Clubs Award (MAC) for "Best Male Vocal Debut." (Crawford had already performed a "CD Release" show of 'In Love With Love' at the Metropolitan Room that April). After spending the past year and a half performing as a guest singer in variety shows throughout city at venues such as Iridium, Birdland, Don't Tell Mama, and Urban Stages, Crawford has again teamed up with Levitt for a new show, this one featuring songs composed by Levitt himself. Crawford will star in Secret Dreams: Gary Crawford Sings The Barry Levitt Songbook at the Metropolitan Room on September 2 at 7 pm. The show will feature the Barry Levitt Quartet, including Jon Burr on bass, Ray Marchica on drums, and Jack Cavari on guitar, as well as special guest vocalists.

Marking its 12th year, the New York Comedy Festival (NYCF), presented in association with Comedy Central, announced its 2015 line-up today. Expanding to six days and running from November 10 -15, the festival will feature some of comedy's biggest stars performing in New York City's most prestigious venues, including the Beacon Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Carnegie Hall, Carolines on Broadway, Madison Square Garden, The Theater at MSG, Town Hall and the 92nd Street Y.
