Andre Raphel Conducts the BSO in Subscription Series Debut

Andre Raphel To Conduct The Detroit Symphony Orchestra In 41st Annual Classical Roots Concert

André Raphel conducts the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on March 8 and 9, 2019 in its annual Classical Roots Concert taking place in Orchestra Hall.  The Saturday, March 9 performance will be a gala concert and a live webcast.  This year's tribute honors  George Walker,  the esteemed composer, pianist and educator who was the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1996 for Lilacs, and who passed away this past August at age 96.  Composer Robert A. Harris will be a special Classical Roots Honoree.   It will be the 41st year that the DSO has presented Classical Roots, honoring the achievements of African American composers. 

The Cleveland Orchestra Extends Vinay Parameswaran's Contract As Assistant Conductor & Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Music Director

The Cleveland Orchestra has announced an extension of Assistant Conductor Vinay Parameswaran's contracts. The agreement continues Parameswaran's tenure with the Orchestra for two years through the 2020-21 season. He will continue to hold the Elizabeth Ring and William Gwinn Mather Assistant Conductor Endowed Chair. A concurrent agreement extends Parameswaran's role as Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra through the same period.

Greenwich Village Orchestra Performs Eastern Romance Featuring Violinist Ming-Feng Hsin In Glazunov's Violin Concerto

The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) continues its 2018-2019 season with Eastern Romance, led by Music Director Barbara Yahr, on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 3:00pm at All Saints Church. The program features longtime Metropolitan Opera Orchestra violinist Ming-Feng Hsin leading the GVO in Dvo k's moving Romance and as soloist in Glazunov's elegant Violin Concerto. The concert concludes with Rachmaninoff's rhapsodic Third Symphony.

Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra's 2018-19 Season At Severance Hall Announced

The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra (COYO) and its Music Director Vinay Parameswaran today announced details of the 2018-19 season. The Youth Orchestra, under Mr. Parameswaran's direction, will perform a three-concert series at Severance Hall on November 16, 2018; March 3, 2019 (with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus); and May 10, 2019. Subscription packages are on sale now, with individual tickets available starting on September 4, 2018.

Boston Ballet Announces Mischa Santora as New Music Director

Boston Ballet is pleased to announce that Mischa Santora has been appointed the new music director. Most recently, Santora was the artistic director of the Spotlight Series at MacPhail Center for Music and the Minneapolis Music Company. He guest conducted for seven Boston Ballet performances of John Cranko's Romeo & Juliet last season and will conduct for the first time in his new role for Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker, which opens on Nov 29, 2018 at the Boston Opera House.

Conductor Andre Raphel Named Conductor Laureate Of The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra

Andre Raphel, Music Director of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra for the past fifteen years, was honored with the title of Conductor Laureate on Wednesday evening, May 2 at a recognition ceremony taking place in Wheeling, West Virginia.    On May 18, he will conduct the Wheeling Symphony in its season finale program featuring Respighi's "Pines of Rome" and works by Dvorak, Beethoven and Richard Strauss. The concert is to be followed by a public celebration.

Young People's Concerts Conclude With INSPIRATIONS AND TRIBUTES: THE RIDDLE OF SHOSTAKOVICH

The 95th season of the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts (YPCs) will conclude on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. with "The Riddle of Shostakovich," the fourth program in this season's series, Inspirations and Tributes - each concert exploring how composers influence and pay tribute to each other. Assistant Conductor Joshua Gersen will lead the program, featuring selections from Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5. New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist Justin Jay Hines (Philharmonic debut) will host the event, written and directed by Kevin Del Aguila.

Andre Raphel To Conduct The Philadelphia Orchestra Summer 2018

André Raphel  returns to the Mann Center of the Performing Arts to conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra in “A Night of Gershwin” on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 8pm.  The All-Gershwin program will include the Cuban Overture, the Piano Concerto in F with Curtis pianist Micah McLaurin, making his Mann Center debut, Porgy and Bess, A Symphonic Picture and also An American in Paris.  The concert is the closing of the Philadelphia Orchestra's Mann Center Residency.

Rachmaninoff's Romantic Blockbuster Leads A Program Filled With Mystery And Intrigue For The Pasadena Symphony

The Pasadena Symphony continues its 90th season on Saturday, March 24th with Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini at Ambassador Auditorium with performances at 2pm and 8pm.  Music Director David Lockington will lead this mesmerizing program filled with mystery and intrigue, opening with Alexander Miller's contemporary puzzle overture Scherzo Crypto, and closing with an even more cryptic work - the Enigma Variations of Elgar. The program centers around a classic Rachmaninoff melody, with his virtuosic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini performed by brilliant pianist Andrew von Oeyen.
