The 2nd Annual Antonyo Awards Will Be Presented in October


 Broadway Black presents The 2nd Annual Antonyo Awards, which honors Black theatre artists during the 2021-2022 season. The live, in-person ceremony will be held on Monday, October 10 at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem (253 West 125th Street). Awards in 29 competitive categories and five honorary categories will be presented along with performances and guest appearances.

Signature Theatre (Paige Evans, Artistic Director; Harold Wolpert, Executive Director) has announced that its sold-out production of Fires in the Mirror, written by MacArthur fellow Anna Deavere Smith, directed by Saheem Ali, and featuring Michael Benjamin Washington, has been extended again and will now play through December 22, 2019.

Winners of the 64th Annual Obie Awards were announced just last night, May 20, in a ceremony held at New York City's Terminal 5. Heidi Schreck's What the Constitution Means to Me, produced by New York Theatre Workshop, received the Obie Award for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Artistic Director of New York Theatre Workshop, James C. Nicola, and Artistic Director and founder of Theatre For A New Audience, Jeffrey Horowitz received special Obie Awards for Lifetime Achievement.
