Carl is a lighting designer working in theater, dance, opera, architecture, and television. Among other freelance affiliations, Carl was a designer in the 2011 Lincoln Center Directors Lab, he is resident lighting designer at Ed Iskandar's creative collective Exit, Pursued by a Bear, and he is lighting director for Chase Brock's concert dance company The Chase Brock Experience. Carl works among many lighting disciplines, and in 2009 founded Sense Lighting Design, a consulting design firm for architectural clients in the high-end retail, residential, institutional, hospitality, and public realms. His architectural experience dates to 2004, when he began a series of relationships with firms including Speirs+Major, Fisher Marantz Stone, and Focus Lighting. He was recently appointed the Board of Directors of the Designers' Lighting Forum of New York.

The Center for Contemporary Opera (CCO) is proud to pay tribute to composer Hans Werner Henze, who died in 2012 at the age of 86, with performances of his El Cimarron (The Runaway Slave), featuring baritone Eric McKeever in the title role. Not performed in New York since 1986, El Cimarron has music direction by Sara Jobin, and stage direction by Eugenia Arsenis, singled out as stage director by Miguel Barnet, author of the book upon which the opera is based. A contemporary riff on an Andean myth, 'A Girl Without Wings' by Jason Williamson, directed by Kathleen Amshoff, is an object theater piece telling the story of a lonely condor who falls in love with a spirited shepherd girl. The play is based on a folktale of the Quechua speaking communities of Ecuador and Peru. IATI Theater and Dramatic Adventure Theatre will present the piece today, October 4 to 27, 2013 as the first production in IATI's newly-renovated facility at 64 East Fourth Street. The story is a fable for all ages and is recommended for ages 8 to 108. This play is presented with support from the Jim Henson Foundation.
