CHITA: A MEMOIR wins Gold Medal for Best Autobiography-English at the 2023 International Latino Book Awards.

Center Repertory Company will present Obie Award-winning Cuban American author Caridad Svich's compelling play Red Bike, which examines a crumbling American dream and the economic-social-cultural divide through the eyes of an 11-year-old growing up in small-town America.

La creación de un escritor global, el Museo de Arte Moderno del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (Inbal) ofrecerá el conversatorio Los relatos silenciosos: las mujeres del Boom Latinoamericano cuyo objetivo es destacar el trabajo de las escritoras de esta generación. La cita es el miércoles 28 de septiembre a las 19:00 horas. 

Main Street Theater (MST) has extended its production of the English-Language Premiere of Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, based on the novel of the same name by Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa. Obie Award winner Caridad Svich’s boisterous, zany romantic comedy will now play through June 12.

As both a graduate student in a performing arts school and a general fan of theater, it is always exciting to see young actors gain professional opportunities. One of the actors I've had the pleasure of seeing blossom in the theatre world is University of Houston student, Mike Sifuentes. After enjoying his performances in a variety of productions, he continues his brilliant work in Main Street Theater's production of AUNT JULIA AND THE SCRIPTWRITER.

Main Street Theater presents the English-Language Premiere of Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, based on the novel by Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas-Llosa, a play by Caridad Svich. MST produced Digital World Premiere of Svich's The Book of Magdalene in 2021 and the English-Language Premiere of The House of the Spirits in 2009.

On May 22, the community is invited to join Main Street Theater and TEATRX, a Latinx Theatre Company based in Houston, for a post-discussion about the importance of sharing stories by Latinx artists and showcasing the range of Latinidad in the Latinx community and in MST's production.

Running from January 13 to February 5, 2022, To  Save and Project: The 18th MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation includes more than 60 newly preserved features and shorts from 19 countries, many having world or  North American premieres and presented in original versions not seen since their initial  theatrical releases.

PBS will be offering a new lineup of premiere content to celebrate Latino Heritage Month this September and October. New performances from The Met, Rita Moreno documentary, and The 34th Hispanic Heritage Awards will highlight the schedule.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival has announced the month-long, five-play O! Reading Series. For this new initiative, five directors who are part of OSF’s artistic staff have each chosen a play to be performed as a live digital staged reading by some of OSF’s favorite actors.

MST’s MainStage season will open with the wildly whimsical and equally intelligent Darwin in Malibu by Crispin Whittell, directed by Udden. It’s a meeting of the minds when Charles Darwin, Thomas Huxley, and the Bishop of Oxford, Samuel Wilberforce, meet on the beach in Malibu a century after their deaths!

The Marsh partners with Remote Studios will present a reading of Caridad Svich's new drama, The Book of Magdalene, as part of a newly launched month web show of readings on its digital platform, MarshStream.

In Mario Vargas Llosa's novel about his early days as a writer, his main character tries and tries again to get his work right. To present a live production of that tale, 'La Tía Julia y el escribidor (Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter)' at the GALA Hispanic Theatre required the same patience and determination.

American Blues Theater will present the live, online reading of Red Bike, written by Caridad Svich, directed by Lavina Jadhwani, and starring August Forman, as part of “The Room” series. The reading will be live on Wednesday, December 9 at 7pm Central. The 75-minute reading will be followed by a group discussion.

Ernest Hemingway, the iconic literary figure considered one of the greatest American writers and among the first to live and work at the treacherous nexus of art and celebrity, is the subject of an upcoming three-part, six-hour documentary series.

El narrador y ensayista Héctor Perea recibió el Premio Internacional Alfonso Reyes 2019 en la Capilla Alfonsina de la Biblioteca Universitaria de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), en la ciudad de Monterrey, donde la Directora General del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), Dra. Lucina Jiménez, y el Dr. Rogelio Garza, rector de esta casa de estudios, entregaron el reconocimiento al escritor al finalizar un minuto de silencio en memoria de la poeta Minerva Margarita Villarreal.
