BARD AT THE GATE will launch its 3rd season on October 19 with the premiere of Laura Schellhardt’s play SHAPESHIFTER, with an opening night pre-show Zoom party hosted by the digital theater series’ creator, Paula Vogel at 7 pm, followed by a performance of the play online starting at 7:30 pm.
Four plays by women – including a solo work written and performed by U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo – will be featured in the third season of BARD AT THE GATE, the digital theater streaming series created by Paula Vogel in 2020.
Prolific theatrical songwriter Micheal Friedman died at age 41 from AIDS related complications in 2017, leaving many bereft as the theater community recognized his vibrant creativity was snuffed out too soon. To preserve his legacy and work, Ghostlight Records is partnering with The Civilians to record nine albums of Friedman's previously unrecorded music for THE MICHAEL FRIEDMAN COLLECTION. This past October, the first trio of albums was released.

On April 1, the celebrated Off-Broadway theater company The Civilians will host Civilian Disobedience, their annual spring benefit, which honors their Civilians of the Year: Emmy nominated, award-winning documentary filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg (Reversing Roe, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work) as well as Marion Friedman Young for her longstanding support of The Civilians and her recent work as The Civilians partners for the Michael Friedman Legacy Fund.
