South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO), led by Sebrina María Alfonso, has announced its 2023/24 season featuring five classical Masterworks concerts and Handel's glorious holiday masterpiece Messiah. This new season features Brahms, Bernstein, Schubert, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and more, including Symphony premieres by trailblazing female composers Florence Price, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich and Jessie Montgomery. The 30th anniversary season of the Bard Music Festival a?" an exploration of a?oeKorngold and His Worlda?? a?" opens this Friday, August 9, with Weekend One: Korngold and Vienna. The first of the weekend's six themed concerts, Program One: a?oeErich Wolfgang Korngold: From Viennese Prodigy to Hollywood Master,a?? offers a broad overview of the composer's multi-faceted career.

Music Director Rohan Smith has certainly taken this fine community orchestra to a new level of excellence. This past weekend, joining forces with the Oratorio Chorale, directed by Emily Isaacson, the Vox Nova Chamber Orchestra, directed by Shannon M. Chase, and four guest soloists, the huge ensemble took on the challenge of Giuseppe Verdi's dramatic Requiem and delivered a stirring performance. Grand in scale and presenting many symphonic and vocal challenges, Verdi's quasi-operatic work is more secular theatre than religious observance, but as such, it is laden with passion, emotion, and intensity. All these qualities were on display in the Midcoast Symphony's performance.

The American Symphony Orchestra has announced the latest collection of online-only live recordings to join its catalogue, which quite recently passed the milestone of more than a quarter of a million streams and downloads sold. The latest batch, now on general release, consists of recordings from the 2014 Bard Music Festival with its focus on “Schubert and his World”.

December 20 marks the cultural high point of Rhode Island's holiday season as The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra joins forces with The Providence Singers, CHRISTINE NOEL, artistic director, in their eighth annual performance of George Frideric Handel's MESSIAH. Soloists include soprano DEBORAH SELIG, mezzo-soprano REBECCA RINGLE, tenor CHARLES BLANDY and MATTHEW BURNS, bass-baritone. ANDREW CLARK, Director of Choral Activities at Harvard University and former artistic director of the Providence Singers, conducts. And so, on Monday, December 23, 2013, at 8:00 PM-the eve of Christmas Eve-at Carnegie Hall, the Oratorio Society of New York will offer its 204th performance of Handel's Messiah in the grand style for which it is celebrated. Music Director Kent Tritle leads the 200-voice chorus, currently marking its 141st concert season, and a quartet of young soloists: Kathryn Lewek, soprano; Rebecca Ringle, mezzo-soprano; Nicholas Phan, tenor, and Dashon Burton, bass-baritone, who was the 2012 first-prize-winner of the OSNY's Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition.
