Here is a list of some of my favorite theatre experiences in San Diego in 2022! This is by no means a complete list of everything that was excellent in this past year, but now we get to turn towards 2023 and all of the fantastic theatre that is sure to come our way.

It would be easy to wonder about the person who can write a show as funny, heartfelt, insightful, and contemplative as WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT ANNE FRANK.  Yet when speaking with playwright Nathan Englander it becomes clear that the humor, the nimble turn of phrase and topic, and then somehow turning back to come together at the end is exactly how his mind works. Englander talks about his process of turning his short story of the same name into the quick-witted comedy now playing at The Old Globe through October 23rd.

The Old Globe announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank by Pulitzer Prize finalist Nathan Englander.  Performances begin September 11, 2022 and play through October 23, 2022, with the opening on Sunday, September 18.

Scott Klass was just finishing up a short, northeast tour as part of the trio Look Park, opening for Brit-rock legends Squeeze, when the world went into lockdown.

Playdate Theatre, the first-ever online theatre company, streamed their virtual play festival fundraiser at the end of July.

Today (August 8-9) in live streaming: Free to Be... You and Me returns for an Encore, Liz Callaway performs with Seth Rudetsky, and so much more!

Playdate, the first-ever online theatre company, is closing out their virtual play festival with original short plays featuring Marcus Scribner (Blackish), Hayley Orrantia (The Goldbergs), and Meg DeLacy (Stargirl). 

Playdate, is an online theatre company exploring the space between theatre and film, that was founded by Talia Light Rake. 

ABC spices things up with Valentine's Day-themed episodes of the network's hit comedies including “Modern Family” visiting the city of love, Paris; Tommy Lee appearing on “The Goldbergs”; and Tyler Cameron, formerly of “The Bachelorette,” guest starring on “Single Parents.” Then, to celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, Feb. 14, ABC will air two beloved Charlie Brown specials, “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown” and “A Charlie Brown Valentine.”

TNT's hit dramedy Claws returns for a third season on Sunday, June 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Last season, the fan-favorite series reached 33.6M total viewers and ranked among the top 10 cable dramas with 18-49 and top 20 with total viewers.

The season finale of A&E's hit drama "Bates Motel" premieres this Monday, May 5 at 10PM ET/PT.
