Peter DeAnda BIO

Peter DeAnda is actor/producer/director/playwright, his plays produced at theaters in America and abroad, published by Columbia University Press,New American Library, Meridian, and Press West Books. His articles pertaining to film and TV read in the New York Times Sunday Arts & Leisure section and Los Angeles Times Sunday Calendar. Five of his plays are included in the Audrey Skirball-Kenis permanent collection housed at Los Angeles Central Library (Tom Bradley wing), and seperately at the NYC Library of Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

He played lead roles on Broadway and Off, a few appearances listed here:

The Guide (Hudson Theater), Zulu & the Zayda,directed by Dore Schary (Cort Theater), Talent '64 (Martin Beck Theater) an Actors Equity presentation. Off-Broadway he played lead roles in The Blacks, directed by Gene Frankel (St. Mark's Theater), Dutchman, written by Leroi Jones, aka Amiri Baraka,(Cherry Lane Playhouse), The Kitchen, directed by Jack Gelber (81st Street Theater) and Sound of Silence (Maidman Playhouse), among others.

He was twice nominated as Best Actor: NAACP IMAGE AWARD. Los Angeles seeing DeAnda in Showgirls (Crossroads Theater), Nifty '50s (Inner City Cultural Center), Remembering Blue Velvet (Inner City Cultural Center), I.D.(Inner City Cultural Center), Walls (Los Angeles Actors Theater), Race to Olduvai(Inner City Cultural Center),and A Beautiful Cloud, (Los Angeles Actors Theater Festival of World Premieres).The last four plays written, produced and directed by Peter DeAnda. His play,They Were Doin' a Jig but Mr. Bones Didn' Feel Like Dancin', produced and broadcast by WBAI Radio, NYC., a Pacifica station. Ladies in Waiting, his first play was produced by Woodie King, Jr, and directed by Shauneille Perry.

He played Dr.Price Trainor in the original cast of the daytime series, One Life To Live, electing to leave the show after a year to co-star in movies with George C. Scott, Sophia Loren - and others of like stature, then receiving top billing in the Samuel Goldwyn Jr. film production Come Back Charleston Blue, a Warner Brothers release.

He was titular star Frank Cutter, a Chicago private eye, in Cutter, the fourth entry of the popular NBC Mystery movies. The roster beginning with Columbo, starring Peter Falk, Macmillan & Wife, starring Rock Hudson, and McCloud, with Dennis Weaver.

He guest starred in many prime time series, among them The Corsairs, (written, produced and directed by Larry Gelbart), Crusade (Tony Dow, director) Strong Medicine (Dihann Carroll starred as DeAnda's TV wife), Beverly Hills 90210, (Directed by Jennie Garth), Beulah Land (A mini-series directed by Harry Falk), Advice to the Lovelorn,(directed by Harry Falk), and Joe Forestor,(starring Lloyd Bridges).

His play ADAM was produced at Dwyer Cultural Center, Harlem, in 2012-13. Timothy Simonson starring as Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. The play directed by Shauneille Perry, produced by Woodie King Jr. and Voza Rivers.

New Federal Theatre Virtual Reading Of THE MEETING

The play, whose premiere was presented by NFT in 1987, is an imaginary encounter between Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X in 1965 in a hotel in Harlem. Differing in their philosophies but alike in their mutual respect, the two men debate their varying approaches to the same grave social problems. Both are prepared to die for their beliefs but neither is aware of how soon assassins' bullets await them. The play was televised on American Playhouse in 1989.

Woodie King to Tour 2015 Black History Month Play Series to Harlem, Queens and the Bronx, 2/8-22

Woodie King's National Black Touring Circuit's 2015 Black History Month Play Series will feature "Adam," the story of legendary Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, and a reading of Ossie Davis' seminal play "The People of Clarendon County" from February 8 - 22 in Harlem, Queens and the Bronx. It's produced in conjunction with Voza Rivers/New Heritage Theatre Group. Tickets are $20. For more information call 212-353-1176.
