Mystery Writers of America celebrates the 208th anniversary of the birth of Edgar Allan Poe by announcing the Nominees for the 2017 Edgar Allan Poe Awards, honoring the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction and television published or produced in 2016. The Edgar Awards will be presented to the winners at the 71st Gala Banquet, April 27, 2017 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, New York City.

The launch of MY STORY, MY DANCE: Robert Battle's Journey to Alvin Ailey, the moving children's picture book from Simon & Schuster, was celebrated at The Ailey Studios on October 29th through reading, dancing and discussion.  Artistic Director Robert Battle was joined by author and illustrator couple Lesa Cline-Ransomeand James E. Ransome, who spoke about their personal connection to Ailey and their special roles in creating this heart-warming picture book biography.  Mr. Battle recounted how seeing Revelations for the first time as a boy in Miami set him on a path to achieve his goals.  "Having experienced first-hand the transformative power of the Ailey legacy, I'm honored by the creation of this book based upon my life," stated Battle, "It's so meaningful to know that this moving story will inspire the next generation of students to dream big and reach high."  Students from The Ailey School listened intently when Mr. Battle read from the book and beamed as they brought to life an excerpt from Alvin Ailey's masterpiece.  The students asked questions and soaked up Mr. Battle's wise and witty advice to stay focused, keep dreaming and dancing diligently, and to remember that if a boy with leg braces can grow up to be a dancer and choreographer, then they can accomplish anything.  Check out the photos of the book launch below!

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers announced today that it will publish Naughty Mabel, the first-ever book by Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor Nathan Lane and his partner Devlin Elliott. It will be illustrated by acclaimed illustrator and animator Dan Krall.

Simon and Schuster Children's Books today announced a worldwide publication agreement with Ringo Starr for a picture book edition of his famous Beatles hit, Octopus's Garden, 45 years after the song was first written.

Melissa Gilbert, actress and bestselling author of Prairie Tale, has announced that she will be publishing her first picture book with Paula Wiseman Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The book will go on sale January 28, 2014, and will be titled Daisy and Josephine. It will be illustrated by Julia Kuo, a rising star in the industry.

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, one of the world's leading children's book publishers, has been named master publishing licensee for PBS KIDS ratings winner Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. The musical, with book by Kate Feiffer and MJ Bruder Munafo, music by Paul Jacobs, lyrics by Sarah Durkee, is based on the acclaimed picture book MY MOM IS TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE, by Kate Feiffer with illustrations by Diane Goode (Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books). The musical will be directed by Debbi Katz and choreographed by Danyelle Demchock of the Young Performers Dance Academy. MY MOM IS TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE will play a four-week limited engagement at the WorkShop Theater (312 West 36th Street). Performances begin today, February 16 at 12 pm and continue through Sunday, March 10 at 3 pm. Press are invited to all performances.

Lauren DeStefano, the New York Times bestselling author of The Chemical Garden trilogy has signed on to write a brand-new utopian series with Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. The new series will be published in Spring 2014 and will be called The Internment Chronicles. The title of the first book is Perfect Ruin. In addition to the new series, two short stories will be published as eBooks to complement the story. The final book of The Chemical Garden Trilogy, Sever, goes on sale February 12, 2013.
