Michael Mitnick Biography

MICHAEL MITNICK’s theatre credits include Sex Lives of Our Parents (world premiere 2ndStage), Fly By Night (Playwrights Horizons Spring 2014; Dallas Theater Center; TheatreWorks), Ed, Downloaded (world premiere Denver Center Theatre Company), Lion.Pig.Wolf.Snake (developed at Berkeley Rep and Ars Nova), Spacebar: A Broadway Play by Kyle Sugarman (world premiere City Lights 2013), Babs the Dodo (world premiere at Washington Ensemble Theatre), elijah (world premiere at LOCAL Theatre Company).

In film, Michael wrote the screenplay for the adaptation of the Newbery-winning novel The Giver, starring Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges to be released this summer. He was selected as one of Variety’s Top 10 Screenwriters to Watch (2013). His screenplay The Current War was among the 10 Best Screenplays of 2011 on THE BLACKLIST and will be produced by Steve Zaillian (Moneyball, Schindler's List), Timur Bekmambetov and Harvey Weinstein.

2012 Visionary Playwright Award. Michael is currently writing commissions for The Roundabout, Manhattan Theatre Club and Theatre Masters in conjunction with The Goodman Theatre. Member of Ars Nova and P73 Playgroups. He received his MFA in Playwriting from the Yale School of Drama.

He lives in Brooklyn.
