Before you know it, Phil is directing the movie, and Benny is starring in it. The Boston Theater Critics Association (BTCA) celebrated more than two dozen outstanding actors, directors, designers, and ensembles at The 36th Annual Elliot Norton Awards ceremony at the Huntington Avenue Theatre last night. The coveted Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence was presented to Leigh Barrett, Robert J. Eagle received a Special Citation in honor of his 50 years at Reagle Music Theatre, and the Guest of Honor Award went to internet sensation Randy Rainbow.

Within the span of just the first two weeks of July, four cutting edge comedies will open at producer Mark Cortale's renowned Art House in Provincetown, hot on the heels of the just-opened new hit Varla Jean Merman show Bad Heroine.  First, Jinkx Monsoon and Peaches Christ bring their smash hit Return to Grey Gardens back to Ptown after a two-year hiatus for a summer long run from July 5 - September 7. Next, Jinkx Monsoon debuts her own new show The Ginger Snapped with cohort Major Scales at the piano, from July 8 through September 10. The next evening, super-duo Kitten n' Lou make their Art House debut with their new comedy "Holier Than Thou" - fresh from a critically-acclaimed, sold out smash run at Fringe World in Australia and Joe's Pub in NYC, from July 9 - 24. Olympus, and the mean girls and toga-clad boys are returning to Olympia High School with a new student in their midst. Will Sandy steal the heart of heartthrob Danny, or can Pandora Spox lure him away, or will he remain loyal to his Titan buddies? Zeus, Venus, and Aphrodite may be pulling the strings and tossing thunderbolts, but true love is a formidable foe. Larry Coen directs a talented ensemble, blending GDO regulars and fresh faces, but, alas, no Rhoda the dog.

The Gold Dust Orphans' 2016 Christmas show features "The World's Foremost Drag Detective" Shirley Holmes and her sidekick Dr. Jody Watley attempting to solve a series of mysterious deaths in Ryan Landry's MURDER ON THE POLAR EXPRESS. Directed by Larry Coen, it has an impressive roster of veterans and newcomers playing all of your favorite fictional Christmas characters, and a cameo appearance by Rhoda, the dog. Scott Martino's costumes are to-die-for, and Meredith Langton and the GlitterPuss Dancers kick up a (snow)storm.

Boston Landmarks Orchestra closes their 2016 Free Today Concerts at the DCR Memorial Hatch Shell on August 31 (7 pm)* with another extraordinary collaboration with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC).  A concert performance  -  with music and dance - of The Boys from Syracuse, with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Lorenz Hart, and a new adaptation of the George Abbott book by Larry ( and Jennifer Hart with consultation by 3-time Tony Award librettist (Annie, co-librettist of The Producers and Hairspray) Tom Meehan.  The concert is free and open to the public. *If it is raining on August 31, the concert will be postponed to September 1 at the Hatch Shell. Everyone's favorite villainess Mrs. Grinchley returns, but she has competition from Whitey Bulger and Donald Trump for the most evil character in A LITTLE ORPHAN TRANNY CHRISTMAS. The mash-up of ANNIE and GREY GARDENS is ripe for hysterical situations, great singing and dancing, and the usual caution about leaving the children at home.

Ryan Landry and the Gold Dust Orphans mash-up THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and the politics of oil and the Middle East in their latest side-splitting musical, THOROUGHLY MUSLIM MILLIE. Scott Martino's to-die-for costumes and scenic design aesthetic are on display, along with a cast made up of long-time favorites and fresh talent, singing and dancing to a batch of borrowed musical theater gems.
