LAByrinth Theater Company will launch into its 30th Anniversary season with the return of The Barn Series 2023, an annual festival featuring a full roster of new plays, and Día Y Noche, a world premiere production written by David Anzuelo (Shared Sentences) and directed by Carlos Armesto (The Who’s Tommy).

Next up at The Wallis, a radical reinvention of Shakespeare’s King Lear, starring Joe Morton in the titular role opens May 14, 2022 (with previews beginning May 10th). John Gould Rubin directs the cast which also includes Mark Harelik, River Gallo, Zach Solomon, Brie Eley, Emily Swallow, Rafael Jordan, Miguel Perez, Stanley Jackson, and Danielle Thorpe. John was most gracious to carve out some time of his full creative schedule to answer a few of my queries.

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents a radical reinvention of Shakespeare's KING LEAR, starring Emmy Award and NAACP Image Award winner Joe Morton (ABC's “Scandal,” the legendary Brother from Another Planet, Netflix's “The Politician,” Justice League) and directed by John Gould Rubin, opening Saturday, May 14 and running through Sunday, June 5, 2022, with previews May 10 through 13, in The Wallis' Bram Goldsmith Theater.

LAByrinth Theater Company will present BACKSEAT, a series of readings of new works inspired by the formation of The Drivers Cooperative NYC. LAByrinth company members have created fifteen new works exploring the intersection of the American Dream and the reality of the working class world of New York City drivers.

ANDTheatre Company is pleased to announce the 13th Annual 'Eclectic Evening of Shorts: Boxers and Briefs,' running from February 28th-March 8th at Theatre 54 at Shetler Studios. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the D.C.-area premiere of Turn Me Loose, Gretchen Law's intimate, no-holds-barred drama about the extraordinary and explosive life of Dick Gregory, who spent his later years in the nation's capital. Turn Me Loose chronicles Gregory's rise as the first Black comedian to expose audiences to racial comedy; in confronting bigotry head-on with biting humor and charm, Gregory turned activism into an art form. "Scorchingly funny and brilliant" (The New York Times), Turn Me Loose, directed by John Gould Rubin, runs September 6-October 14, 2018 in the Kreeger Theater.
