Gregoire Maret, jazz harmonica player extraordinaire, will be joining the Esther Apituley Ensemble in the American Premiere and New York version of her acclaimed music theater piece, Bach and Bleach, June 5 - 9 at LaMaMa.

La MaMa presents Bach & Bleach, an original music-theatre production by Netherlands-based violist Esther Apituley. The work, presented in a new production directed by Erwin Maas, will be seen for the first time in English and is set to a text by Ko van den Bosch. Bach and Bleach will be seen in its American premiere and takes place at La MaMa Experimental Theatre located at 66 East 4th Street. Bach & Bleach, with a running time of 80 minutes, is an ode to the power of the imagination and to the power of Bach. The work has been seen to rave reviews for more than 50 performances in both the Netherlands and in Spain.

Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, and Sir Henry Irving, famed British stage actor an inspiration for Stoker's title character, held a friendship that spanned more then twenty years.  Irving was the leading actor at the Royal Lyceum Theater in London and Stoker the business manager.  Their friendship was fraught with egos, jealousies and fierce competitive natures.  The Necromancers weaves fact and fantasy together to present the last days of Irving's life.

The crowd-pleasing rugby play "Alone It Stands" scored Best Production at the 2019 Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival's closing night festivities at The Manhattan Club at Rosie O'Grady's in Times Square tonight. The locally produced American premiere of "Alone It Stands," a play with an illustrious production history in Ireland, The West End and elsewhere, was nominated in four categories, and played at 59E59 Theaters. Two critically acclaimed productions imported from Ireland -- "On Blueberry Hill" (at 59E59 Theaters through February 3) and "The Morning After the Life Before" which played at the cell - also had big wins, with "On Blueberry Hill" (produced by Fishamble: The New Play Co in Dublin) earning Best Actor for Niall Buggy and Best Design; and "The Morning After the Life Before" (produced by Dublin's Guna Nua Theatre) winning Best Actress for Lucia Smyth, and Best Director for Paul Meade.

Productions and plays from Ireland face off against several homegrown New York productions as the 11th annual Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival hands out its awards at a closing night ceremony at Rosie O'Grady's Manhattan Club, 800 Seventh Avenue, on Monday January 28 at 7pm.  Origin 1st Irish 2019, the world's only theatre festival dedicated to showcasing the work of contemporary Irish playwrights from around the world, began on January 9. The Irish Repertory Theatre, which 'encourages the development of works focusing on the Irish and Irish-American experience, and produces works of other cultures interpreted through the lens of an Irish sensibility,' continues the 10th season of the Irish Rep Reading Series.  A staged reading of Jimmy Kerr's play House Strictly Private will be held on Friday, February 26 at 3pm EST at the DR2 Theater, 103 East 15th Street (the Irish Repertory Theatre's temporary home during current renovations).  The Irish Rep's literary manager, Kara Manning, will direct the reading. Tickets are free, and the event is open to the public.  An RSVP to 212-727-2737 is suggested.

Following a two-week extension, Alan Cumming's acclaimed one-man production of Macbeth concludes its limited Broadway engagement today, July 14, at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre (243 W. 47th St.). Producer Ken Davenport has announced an expanded rush ticket program for two of the final performances of Tony and Olivier Award winner Alan Cumming's acclaimed one-man Broadway production of Macbeth.

Apparently, not all upper west side Jewish families spend Christmas Day going out for Chinese food and a movie.  Take the extended family of Richard Greenberg's The Assembled Parties, who spend two December 25ths, twenty years apart, in a perfunctory celebration of the holiday while complaining about the inability to find a plumber to come right over fix a leaky pipe (Even when offered a 'Nativity surcharge.') and referring to the season's continual playing of Bing Crosby singing 'White Christmas' as, 'a tiny acoustic rape every time you leave the apartment.'
