STOMP is here for a brief five-performance run through April 7 at Capital One Hall in Tysons. In STOMP, anything can be used to drive a beat and set the rhythm. Brooms, trashcans, grocery carts, inner tubes, suitcases – everything including kitchen sinks are objects to play with and explore. Zippo lighters, plastic bags and the performers’ bodies are pressed into action to create surprising and exuberant music.

The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts has announced its launch of a special online series of exclusive live stream interviews with global performing artists from its upcoming 2020-2021 season of performances on Wednesdays at noon in June.

Broadway in Bryan Park kicked off its 2015 program yesterday - and BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the first day. This week's line-up included performances from the casts of STOMP, FUERZA BRUTA, IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU (Farah Alvin, Nick Spanger and Jillian Louis) and WICKED (Caroline Bowman, Kara Lindsay, Matt Shingledecker). One thing I really love about STOMP is that no matter how many times you've seen it, there are always a few new bits thrown in for you to enjoy. It's a constantly evolving show, although you can bet it will always begin with the troupe using their brooms to demonstrate how common items can be utilized to produce music and magic. Productions have been touring the world with various participants for so many years now that it's even become a touchstone for parents, who have already experienced it, to take their children to see it for the first time. My own son has seen it at least three times, but has grown to appreciate it even more as he's gotten older and more into music. The touring company that just passed through The Fabulous Fox Theatre (April 10-12, 2015) proved, once again, that the poly-rhythmic textures that reverberate in the venues they play overflow with a truly joyful noise that both amuses and delights.

Earlier today, the cast of the STOMP 'flipped the switch' to light the Empire State Building in red and white on Thursday February 27, in honor of its 20th anniversary in New York at off-Broadway's Orpheum Theatre.
