Gucci and parent company Kering confirmed to WWD that they have named Alessandro Michele as their new creative director, succeeding Frida Giannini. Michele will debut his first collection in Milan on February 25th for the women's fall/winter 2015/16 season.
WWD reported that the announcement of Alessandro Michele, currently Gucci's head accessory designer, will take over as creative director is imminent. Michele would be filling the shoes of Frida Giannini's after her early departure last week and has up until now been the front runner for the job.
In December, Gucci announced that it would be losing its creative director, Frida Giannini, starting the rumor mill cranking as to 'who would be the next great Gucci creative head?' In a swift move, Gucci has seemed to up the anti by asking Giannini to leave earlier than expected to help faciliate the transition and picking process.
Let the search for a new creative director begin.
