WORKING is based on Studs Terkel's well-known book of interviews with U.S workers, which retells the accounts of men and women and presents the meaning that these jobs bring to their lives. This classic musical was first adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso and premiered at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. The show later ran on Broadway briefly before entering the national regional theatre circuit. The show was updated in 2012 with two new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, and features the classic numbers from artists such as Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, and James Taylor. WORKING runs at Main Street Theatre from May 21 - June 19, 2016. The show, directed by the talented Andrew Ruthven, reflects not only the struggles that we go through as a nation, but hits home on multiple levels with the diverse and hard working citizens of Houston.

Main Street Theater presents Cabaret & Cocktails @ MST, an artist-driven event calling on Main Street Theater actors to sing songs they love but may not have had the chance to share yet. Highlights of the evening include the 'The Love Trio' by Andrew Lloyd Webber, a mash-up of three of his most famous love songs, Peter Gabriel's 'Don't Give Up,' 'Proud of Your Boy' from Aladdin, and 'Keep Moving the Line' from NBC's Smash, and more. An evening of great songs, wonderful stories, and cocktails featuring Houston artists Michael Chiavone, Kasi Hollowell, Amanda Passanante, Andrew Ruthven, Christina Stroup, and David Wald.

BWW Reviews: PUTTING IT TOGETHER At Main Street Theater

Main Street Theater begins 2015 with the Stephen Sondheim musical revue Putting It Together. The production will be at Ovations Night Club in Rice Village (next door to MST's village home) while the theater undergoes renovation.

I got the chance to talk to Costume Designer Katherine Snider, the woman who helped put the glitz in Stages Repertory Theatre's glitzy and fun production of PETE N' KEELY.

Stages' PETE N' KEELY is a dark comedy that hearkens back to a bygone era when men were gentlemen and women were ladies. A time when Billie Holiday wore impeccably designed silk dresses and garlands in her hair on the stage then exited to a life of heroin addiction, incarceration and abusive romantic relationships. Those were the days.

William Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE has experienced intermittent popularity. With a complex structure, the play is a tragedy, comedy, and romance. Shakespeare draws large inspiration from Robert Greene's Pandosto, and some scholars claim the play is a parallel to the fall of Anne Boleyn. As we bid farewell to the longest winter in recent memory, Houston's Stark Naked Theatre Company is producing a whimsical and surprisingly touching take on THE WINTER'S TALE.

Stages Repertory Theatre's 37th season epitomizes both the spirit of adventure and innovation that launched the theatre and the extraordinary growth and expertise it has achieved in the years since. Highlights include four musical productions-a joyous world premiere production, an infectious international hit, and an obscure classic Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical-as well as three spectacular solo shows, an enchanting, timely comedy, and a searing modern take on a classic drama.

Due to family issues, actor David Wald is no longer a part of Stark Naked Theatre's upcoming production of THE WINTER'S TALE. To address this unforeseen circumstance, Director Philip Lehl will assume the role of Leontes, and the play's opening weekend is postponed by one week. THE WINTER'S TALE will now open on Thursday, May 8th, at 7:30 p.m.

Following last year's well-received and highly praised production of HENRY V, Main Street Theater and Prague Shakespeare Company have teamed up again to produce William Shakespeare's MACBETH. For this version of MACBETH, the play is condensed to an 80-minute one act and the plot moves with breakneck speeds through the familiar tale of witches, ambition, murder, and destruction.

The Prague Shakespeare Company will present Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Main Street Theater will host the production at its Rice Village location. MST and PSC have co-produced Shakespeare's Henry V and Richard III during the past two seasons and both productions were critically acclaimed in Houston and in Prague.
