'BELLA!' Washington DC Premiere celebrates Women's History Month with a theatrical screening of the film directed by Jeff L. Lieberman at Edlavitch DCJCC Theater.

Premium television network EPIX® announced today that four-part docuseries By Whatever Means Necessary: The Times of Godfather of Harlem will premiere on November 8, 2020 at 10 PM ET/PT.

One of the most recognized and respected broadcast journalists in the Tri-State region, veteran NBC 4 New York/WNBC news anchor David Ushery has been elevated into a new station role, co-anchoring the 4 PM and 11 PM editions of “News 4 New York”.

THE APOLLO, directed by Oscar® and Emmy® winner Roger Ross Williams, chronicles the legacy of New York City's landmark Apollo Theater, covering the rich history of the storied performance space over its 85 years. What began as a refuge for marginalized artists emerged as a hallowed hall of black excellence and empowerment. In the film, Williams reflects on the struggle of black lives in America, the role that art plays in that struggle, and the part the Apollo Theater continues to play in the cultural conversation.

Following the Friday evening performance of the critically acclaimed off-Broadway play 'Miracle in Rwanda' at the Lion Theater, Leslie Lewis, co-creator and producer was celebrated for her heartfelt dedication to the healing of the Rwandan people through her art and her actions.

World-renowned play MIRACLE IN RWANDA (now Off Broadway at the Lion Theater on Theater Row), gave a special performance at the UNITED NATIONS (405 E 42nd St.) in Manhattan -- in association with the Permanent Mission of Rwanda to the United Nations-on the 25th Commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center, one of Harlem's leading community-based organizations dedicated to providing supportive behavioral health services to clients throughout the five boroughs, today announced the recipients of the 2018 Humanitarian Awards and Community Leadership Award. The recipients will be honored at a special reception, to be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. PepsiCo and la Fleur de Harlem will serve as sponsors of the event.

An exhibition of works by Haile King Rubie, a 26-year-old Harlem artist with Down Syndrome, will inaugurate the Clara Francis Gallery, a new Harlem art spot, July 27 to August 17, 2016. The exhibition, 'Haile King Rubie: Speaking Colors,' is primarily drawn from Rubie's 'art waves' of 2013 and 2015 and features contemplations of his otherwise inaccessible inner world. The new gallery space, located at 2070 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., is a welcome addition to Harlem's art district.

"Accessibility to greenspaces comes in many forms, from proximity within our neighborhoods, to equitable distribution of funds for parks in high-need areas across the five boroughs," said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP. "Constructing this ADA-compliant ramp provides a much improved universal access point onto the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway for the able-bodied while opening up a whole new world of access for those who are disabled."

Tony Award nominee Brandon Uranowitz, currently appearing in An American in Paris, joins the cast of the 2015 Will on the Hill event at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. A favorite bipartisan event of theatre and political fans alike, Will on the Hill returns to the Shakespeare Theatre Company on Monday, June 15, 2015. The cast will also feature special guest performers, STC Affiliated Artist Edward Gero and Samira Wiley, known for her role in Orange is the New Black.

The annual Will on the Hill event welcomes Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle and distinguished Washington insiders onto the Shakespeare Theatre Company stage to perform a political satire infused with Shakespearean language and references. The event pays tribute to the unique dynamic of our city and provides a wonderful way to engage new audiences. Proceeds from this event support STC's many education, artistic, and community engagement programs including in-school workshops and online learning resources that inspire new and diverse audiences and deepen the connection to classical theatre in learners of all ages. Will on the Hill will take place in Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), and begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner immediately after the performance.

Harlem's Mama Foundation for the Arts will celebrate its 15th Anniversary at its second annual Gala, which will take place at St. Martin's Cathedral (230 Lenox Avenue at 122nd Street) on Monday, June 16th from 6 - 9 PM. The special evening of food and entertainment -- which benefits Gospel for Teens, a program of the Mama Foundation for the Arts' School for Gospel, Jazz, and R&B Arts -- is graciously underwritten by Larry Scott and Lawrence Scott Events. On Monday, May 5, NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh joined Congress Member Charles Rangel, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, Community Board 12 District Manager Ebenezer Smith, and Joel Towers, Executive Dean of Parsons The New School for Design, to cut the ribbon on the newly restored Highbridge Recreation Center in Northern Manhattan. The Highbridge Recreation Center, located on Amsterdam Avenue and West 173rd Street, underwent extensive renovations during the past three years, and NYC Parks and community partner organizations celebrated the center's re-opening with a day of free sports, fitness and educational activities for children and adults of all ages.
