A rose is a rose is a rose... We all have heard that phrase, but do you know who created it? Gertrude Stein!

What do Picasso, Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sinclair Lewis, Thornton Wilder, and Matisse have in common? They all invented themselves in the famous Paris atelier of two American expats, Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. Gertrude Stein and a Companion, running from July 3rd - 14th, explores the 40-year love affair between these two great minds and enduring artists of the 20th century.

A graceful examination of a collision of cultures. A comedy about the hilarious eccentricities of Midwestern family life. A big Broadway musical where lonely hearts fall in love. A play about an artist's responsibility for his art with some of the most beautiful music in the world. After 86 years, the 2019 season at the Peterborough Players promises to continue their tradition of producing delightful, surprising, thought-provoking professional theatre at the highest level. In addition, this year boasts an entire season of American playwrights.

Winner of Best Play at the Edinburgh Festival, Sydney Theatre Festival, and Vita Award for Best Play in South Africa, this two woman show spans decades and takes on multiple figures in the ladies' world, from reporters and German soldiers to Hemingway and Picasso.

A dramatized reading of 'Gertrude Stein and a Companion', a play by Win Wells, will be performed by Judith Rane and Judith Kendall and directed by Lynn Hamrick on Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 pm at Teatro Paraguas.
