Actors' Theatre's 8 Tens @ 8 Short Play Festival Celebrates Silver Anniversary


Santa Cruz County Actors' Theatre celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the 8 Tens @ 8 Short Play Festival, January 10 through February 9, 2020, at the Center Stage Theater in downtown Santa Cruz. The annual ten-minute play festival is one of the most anticipated and popular events of the theatre season in Santa Cruz. The festival stages sixteen award-winning plays from the 2019 international playwriting contest, shown in repertoire over the five-week festival.

Applications Now Open For The 2020 Drama League Directing Fellowships And Director Residencies


The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Artistic Director) opened its applications today for the 2020 Drama League Directors Project, which offer unique Fellowship and Residency opportunities for professional stage directors at all levels of experience to advance their artistry, learn new skills, develop and present new work, and propel their careers. The only program of its kind in the nation, the deadline for completed applications is 11:59pm US EDT on Monday, February 3, 2020.

The Drama League Announces Recipients Of The 2019 Directors Project Fellowships


The Drama League has announced the twelve stage directors who have been selected as the 2019 Directing Fellows of The Drama League Directors Project: NJ Agwuna, Sharifa Elkady, Raz Golden, Chika Ike, Rebecca Marzalek-Kelly, Ismael Lara, Jr., Amanda McRaven, Lindsey Hope Pearlman, Ben Randle, Tai Thompson, Gabriel Torres, and Sophia Watt. They will be publicly introduced to the professional theatre community during the 85th Annual Drama League Awards, which will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square (1535 Broadway). Applications Are Now open for The Drama League's Directing Fellowships


The Drama League opened its applications today for the 2019 Directors Project Fellowship Programs, which offer unique opportunities for early and mid-career stage directors to advance their artistry, learn new skills, stage new work, and develop their careers.  The only program of its kind in the nation, it boasts 12 different fellowships, including a new initiative in community-based theater and a new immersion in the development of new musicals.  The deadline for completed applications is 12:00 p.m. (US EST) on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

Leading Intimacy Director Claire Warden Hosts Workshop At The Drama League


The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director), in addressing a safe working environment for directors, actors, and stage managers, announced today the creation of a new workshop that will focus on intimacy issues in the creative working environment. The special workshop, Intimacy Direction, hosted and lead by Intimacy Director Claire Warden, will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at The Drama League Theater Center in Tribeca (32 Avenue of the Americas.)

Mia Rovegno And Mia Walker Named 2018 Fellows In Television And Film By The Drama League


The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) announced today that Mia Rovegno and Mia Walker have been named this year's recipients of The Drama League's Directing Fellowship in Film and Television, which gives early- and mid-career theater directors their first opportunities to shadow on professional film and television projects. Ms. Rovegno and Ms. Walker will receive financial support, travel allowances, expert mentors, and a shadow directing assignment as part of their fellowship.

In each two-hour time slot for WRITE OUT FRONT, a different playwright will write a new play on a laptop, while the screen shot of their computer is projected onto a 42' monitor facing the passersby on the street, making their normally private creative process public.

The Drama League opened it doors at their new space on May 23rd with a ribbon cutting hosted by Judith Light. The focal point of The DramaLeague Theater Center is the Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley Studio Lab, a brand-new laboratory/development space for theater artists to create and hone work for future productions. It will also act as a flexible multi-purpose space for a variety of programming including educational opportunities, audience-focused series and special events. This will allow the Drama League to better serve the entire New York theater community - directors, audience, playwrights and actors. The Drama League Theater Center will offer artist residencies, play readings, open rehearsals, developmental workshops, lectures, classes, seminars, discussions, conferences, theatre-focused social gatherings and more.
