Toccarra Cash is a New York-based award-winning Actor, Public Speaker, Writer, Teaching Artist and the Creator and Host of The Image Monster Workshop. She is currently gearing up to perform in the critically-acclaimed and widely produced play, Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morrisseau at the Tony-Award winning Huntington Theatre Company in Boston this winter/spring. She was most recently seen in the Off-Broadway play, Napoli, Brooklyn last summer. Among her favorite recent roles is the co-starring role of Malika, opposite Wendell Pierce in the Off-Broadway and New Orleans productions of Brothers from the Bottom, for which she won an A.U.D.E.L.C.O. Award for Best Supporting Actress.

On television, she recently co-starred in CBS’s Blue Bloods, The CW’s Younger and USA’s Royal Pains. Her other Off-Broadway Theatre credits include: Playing with Fire (August Strindberg Repertory Theatre/Negro Ensemble Company) and The Fabulous Miss Marie (New Federal Theatre/Castillo Theatre). She has performed in many regional theatres as well, including Baltimore CENTERSTAGE, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Florida Studio Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, New York Stage & Film Festival, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, True Colors Theatre Company, and the Tony-Award winning Alliance Theatre. She is a Resident Artist of the New York-based theatre, The Cell. Her work in film includes ATL (Warner Bros.), Blue Car (Miramax), independent films Faraway Eyes, First Match, Gracie’s Keeper, Rosy, and the critically acclaimed independent film Hands to the Sky, which aired last fall on Magic Johnson’s network, Aspire. You may have seen her in the Black Friday national commercial for Time Warner Cable (now Spectrum) entitled “Miller House,” in which she starred with the former Super Bowl-winning Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach, Bill Cowher.

In addition to her acting career, Toccarra has a major presence in the corporate and educational media sectors as a Media Literacy Facilitator for HBO, where she leads the Young Media Minds Program—a Media Arts Program for New York City middle school students—and she is a Teaching Artist for the McCarter Theatre on Princeton University’s campus. She is also a proud graduate of the prestigious Spelman College, where she curated and co-hosted an alumni network film festival for the newly initiated Homegrown Creative Collective, a network of successful performing and visual artists who are alumni of Spelman and Morehouse Colleges. A product of the Midwest, Toccarra was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio and received her M.F.A. in Acting/Directing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). As a respected writer, has written movie reviews for popular African-American Women’s website, “Hello Beautiful!” and she explores Black Women’s Beauty & Image on her blog “The Image Monster” at www.theimagemonster.blogspot.com; in Spring 2017, she launched her interactive workshop of the same name, targeting 16-25 year-old young Women of Color.

Public Theater Free Mobile Unit Returns With MEASURE FOR MEASURE


Continuing its commitment to bringing free Shakespeare to the community and strengthening audience engagement with the arts, The Public Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, will mount its MOBILE UNIT again this fall with a free three-week tour to venues across the city of Shakespeare's MEASURE FOR MEASURE, directed by LA Williams. The Mobile Unit's free tour (October 24-November 16) brings Shakespeare and other works to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts by visiting correctional facilities, homeless shelters, social service organizations, and other community organizations. Following the tour to the five boroughs, there will also be a free three-week engagement of MEASURE FOR MEASURE in The Public's Shiva Theater running Monday, November 18 through Sunday, December 8, with an official press opening on Friday, November 22.

Westport Country Playhouse's New Works Initiative Continues In Fourth Consecutive Year


Westport Country Playhouse's New Works Initiative (NWI) continues in its fourth consecutive year of developing new plays and musicals with playwrights, directors, and other artists, culminating in readings before an invited audience. The NWI 2019 Season kicked off on Wednesday, June 12, with a private reading of the new play, "form of a girl unknown," written by Charly Evon Simpson, and directed by Melissa Crespo.

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) announces the culminating event to happen on Monday, May 13th, 2019 for the 2018 - 2019 SOUL Producing Residency with Black Girls Are From Outer Space. On the heels of Mother's Day, Black Girls Are From Outer Space is a celebration of black women! It is an opportunity to engage in a healthy dialogue on the holistic, rejuvenation of black women and girls who have experienced, witnessed or are the descendants of sexual trauma. How can we reclaim the social narrative that sees and treats our bodies as foreign objects? Perhaps it is our majestic beauty that the world doesn't understand? Or is it the complex grandeur we possess that cannot be named? This event is an opportunity to affirm just how beyond extraordinary we are with: "black girls are from outer space!"

Global Creatures' Broadway-bound Moulin Rouge and the Huntington Theatre Company's production of Man in the Ring were the big winners at the 23rd Annual IRNE Awards, as the two productions garnered a dozen awards between them. Moulin Rouge took home seven awards, including Best Musical, New Musical and Director in the Large Stage category, and Man in the Ring was honored with five, including the Best Play, Director, and Actor awards. Moonbox Productions' Cabaret earned a half-dozen awards, including Best Musical, and Best Director and Choreography awards for its director, Rachel Bertone.  Lauren Patten of JAGGED LITTLE PILL took home the award for Best Supporting Actress for a Large Company.
