California Festival: A Celebration of New Music launches November 3, 2023. The Festival was conceived by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, San Diego Symphony Music Director Rafael Payare, and San Francisco Symphony Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Glenn Gould, the iconic Canadian classical pianist, writer, composer, conductor and broadcaster, would have celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday, September 25th, 2022.  To commemorate this milestone anniversary, The Glenn Gould Foundation has programmed GlennGould@90, a series of free events starting September 17th honouring Canada's futuristic musical maverick. 

Ten pianists have been chosen to advance to the Semifinals of Canada's Honens International Piano Competition. The pianists (aged 21 to 31) come from seven countries: Austria, Hungary, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Ukraine, and the United States.

On Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 8:30pm ET, composer, pianist and vocalist Michael Harrison will offer his debut performance of traditional Indian classical music, which he has adapted for piano with tabla accompaniment, presented by Drive East by Navatman.

Bowes, Jr. Center for Performing Arts, a comprehensive arts hub created through a transformative $46.4 million gift in 2018, the Rubin Institute for Music Criticism will welcome three distinguished faculty journalists to its roster of industry-leading professionals: Janice Page, The Washington Post arts editor; Steve Smith, National Sawdust director of publications; and Zachary Woolfe, The New York Times classical music editor.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the winners of the 2018 Stephen and Cynthia Rubin Institute for Music Criticism. Jennifer Gersten, a DMA candidate at Stony Brook University, was chosen by a panel of leading national music critics to receive the $10,000 Rubin Prize in Music Criticism for demonstrating outstanding promise in music criticism. Brin Solomon, an MFA candidate at New York University, was selected as runner-up and received a $1,000 award. As part of the Rubin Institute's mission to advance and maintain qualitative discourse on music, the two cash prizes are intended to support further endeavors in the field of music criticism.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the fourth biennial gathering of the Stephen and Cynthia Rubin Institute for Music Criticism, a groundbreaking initiative for educational and financial support that identifies and engages emerging young writers in the art of classical music criticism and creates a sustainable funding model for professional journalists at news organizations across the United States. Richard Kessler, Dean of Mannes School of Music and Executive Dean of the College of Performing Arts at The New School, announced today the appointment of Emma Griffin as the Managing Artistic Director of the Mannes Opera. American soprano Kathleen Battle's luminous voice has been called '…without qualification, one of the very few most beautiful in the world' (The Washington Post ). Yet beyond the glory of her singing, in a career filled with countless accolades, honors and major milestones, what has perhaps distinguished her most is her almost magical ability to create an unwavering bond with her audience. Returning to Seattle for the first time in two decades, the legendary opera star takes the stage at the University of Washington's Meany Hall on April 14, 2018, to explore traditional spirituals and the writings of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass. She is joined by acclaimed jazz pianist Joel Martin and local choirs The Sound of the Northwest and UW Chamber Singers.

Mannes School of Music presents two performances of Kaija Saariaho's cornerstone oratorio La Passion de Simone. This "musical path in 15 stations" is a major work crafted by composer Kaija Saariaho and writer Amin Maalouf, and is a contemporary Passion play on the 'luminous trajectory' of philosopher and activist Simone Weil, who devoted her life to the oppressed and met an untimely death in 1943.
