Murphy, PhD, former president and executive director of the National Theatre in Washington, DC for 35 years, and Georgetown University Professor Emeritus, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Lauderdale, FL on April 3, announced his spouse and life partner of 49 years, US Army Col. H. Jones 'Jon' Carrow, Ret.

A new group of entertainment professionals in the categories of Motion Pictures, Television, Live TheatreLive Performance, Recording and Radio have been selected to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the full list was announced today, June 20, 2019 at 12:30 P.M. by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's Walk of Fame Selection Committee. The newest honorees were chosen from hundreds of nominations at a selection committee meeting held in June and will be ratified by the Hollywood Chamber's Board of Directors. Walk of Fameractresssinger Vanessa Williams, a committee member for the 2019-2020 Selection Committee, announced the new honorees with Rana Ghadban, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

In the second event of the Folsom Lake College Speakers Series, the Harris Center welcomes Susan Stamberg to the podium. The nationally renowned broadcast journalist is a Special Correspondent for National Public Radio. She was the first woman to anchor a national nightly news program, she has won every major award in broadcasting, and she has been inducted into both the Broadcasting and Radio Hall(s) of Fame. Charismatic and insightful, Susan Stamberg is well-known for her conversational style, intelligence, and knack for finding the interesting story.

Kitty Felde, celebrated public radio journalist, founder/producer/host of Book Club for Kids podcast and playwright, is featured at two Author Talk/Book Signing events for Welcome to Washington, Fina Mendoza, her debut mystery novel for ages 7 to 12, on Saturday, March 30, 2:30 pm, at Children's Book World in West L.A., and Monday, April 1, 6 pm, at Vroman's in Pasadena. With more than a dozen Golden Mike Awards for her work covering baseball, high profile trials and reporting news stories from around the world, Felde was named “Journalist of the Year” three times by the LA Press Club and Society of Professional Journalists and hosted Southern California Public Radio KPCC's “Talk of the City” for nearly a decade. Celebrating more than 50 world premiere plays by women at Women's Voices Theater Festival.

Tony Award-winning playwright Lisa Kron will be a featured guest and participant at the launch party of the Women's Voices Theater Festival on September 8 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The invitation-only event kicks off the beginning of the Festival, an unprecedented collaboration among professional theater companies that includes the presentation of more than 50 world-premiere productions of work by female playwrights, taking place this September and October in the nation's capital region. The launch party features a creative conversation between Kron and National Public Radio's Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg focused on gender parity in the arts in the Museum's Performance Hall, followed by a celebratory party and toast to officially declare the start of the Festival.

The evening begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner immediately following the performance.
