Broadway World Cabaret invites MAC Award-winning soprano Georga Osborne and radio DJ (Sing It, Sister!) Ellen Bonjorno (coincidentally, wives in real life) to talk about their trip to Town Hall to see the legendary Judy Collins.

How can we better listen to and hear voices that are different from our own? That is the focus of the Ember Ensemble concert titled 'Outside Voices' that will take place on Saturday, February 29th in NYC and Sunday, March 1st, in South Orange, NJ. The second concert in Ember's 25th anniversary season with the theme, Listening, it will explore through music the importance of listening thoughtfully and with compassion to voices that are frequently disenfranchised, such as those of other cultures, races and genders, the young, elderly and the ill.

"Not A Day Goes By" that Judy Collin's music is not heard on the planet and her new Sondheim show is a wonderful celebration of Stephen Sondheim's words and music. Her unique artistry has captivated audiences for over fifty years and landed her a spot in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Hirschfeld might draw Judy Collins as a halo of white hair, doe eyes, and a long black line curving, unbroken, to cradle her guitar. She's the image of unstudied elegance, natural, and despite the artist's thanks to Elizabeth Arden, soulfully organic. Judy Collins has been performing for 57 years in what she deems 'the second oldest profession.' Many of us came of age with her experimental, rallying lead. When the audience is invited to sing along they do so softly, sure of lyrics embedded in meaningful memories. Those of us who continue to show up year after year hear some of the same history---she was supposed to be a classical pianist, but opted for guitar and earned her chops in the folk world---and stories, like the night she awoke in Woodstock after an Albert Grossman party and sat on the floor secretly listening to Bobby (Dylan) work on 'Mr. Tambourine Man.'

Judy Collins, who celebrated her 76th birthday on May 1, has been entertaining us for 56 years "not including childhood." A formidable contributor to the soundtrack of Boomer lives, her transcendent voice conjures memories like few others of any generation. Collins' current show at Cafe Carlyle (which opened last night and runs until May 16) mines familiar territory like evocative comfort food, including retold tales that sometimes go on too long. Many songs take on new coloring both vocally and in terms of changed context, i.e. that of a mature woman looking back.

In the upcoming season, the Cafe Carlyle will remain the only place in town to see Judy Collins, John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey, Steve Tyrell, and Woody Allen, as the great Andrea Marcovicci joins the venue's exclusive list of resident stars.
