Playwright Ishmael Reed uses satire to explore aspects of American culture and history overlooked by others. His newest play, 'The Slave Who Loved Caviar: A Theatrical Investigation Into the Relationship Between Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol,' challenges the notion that Basquiat was merely Warhol's 'mascot.' Theater for the New City will present its world premiere December 23, 2021 to January 9, 2022, directed by Reed's frequent collaborator, Carla Blank.

Taken by the one-sided commentary about the relationship between Andy Warhol, a god of the New York Art World, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, made by Warhol groupies and critics, Reed offers a different view. His new play, 'The Slave Who Loved Caviar, A Theatrical Investigation Into the Relationship Between Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol,' challenges the notion that Jean-Michel Basquiat was merely Warhol’s “mascot.”

Critically acclaimed soulful crooner Allan Harris will be bringing his hit album Kate's Soulfood on the road this summer! As a recipient of a prestigious SouthArts Jazz Road touring grant, Harris will utilize these funds to take his Harlem-inspired studio recording down the East Coast.

New Adventures has announced details of the two touring casts for the World Premiere of Matthew Bourne's "ROMEO AND JULIET" opening at Curve, Leicester on Monday 13 May 2019. The Merry Wives of Windsor, Shakespeare's only comedy set in or around London, is now modernized in the setting of an Upper West Side cooperative by Drilling Company Shakespeare. Performances will run in Bryant Park, Fridays and Saturdays from May 19 to June 3.

Maury Yeston, the composer and lyricist best-known for Nine and Titanic, visited the West End a few months before the West End opening of his new musical, Death Takes a Holiday. Based on a film (which was based on a play) this story tells of how Death changed his perspective. He used to not quite understand why everyone he came to collect was quite so aggrieved to die, until he met a particular woman who allowed him to realise quite what makes life worth clinging to. The side effect of Death's occupation being, though, that he can't collect anyone else while he's so distracted - Death the person and death the concept take a break!  Maury was kind enough to discuss his musical background, some of his better-known works and his latest venture for the stage.

The Dizzy Feet Foundation (DFF) presented the sixth annual 'Celebration of Dance' Gala at The Novo last night in Los Angeles. Julianne Hough, Derek Hough, Maddie Ziegler, Paula Abdul, Joely Fisher, Elizabeth Berkely, Mitzi Gaynor, Sir Matthew Bourne, Allison Holker, Piper Perabo and Kevin Zegers were among the celebrities that came to support DFF, a non-profit organization founded by Nigel Lythgoe (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance)and director Adam Shankman(Hairspray, Rock of Ages), whose mission is to sponsor, fund and/or support access to and the quality of dance education programs that expose children in low-income areas to the lifelong benefits of dance education in the United States.

The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Best in Show honors and $50,000 in prize money went to GCH CH Claircreek Impression de Matisse, a Portuguese Water Dog known as "Matisse" owned by Milan Lint, Peggy Helming and Donna Gottdenker of New York, New York. Before an enthusiastic crowd at the Orange County Convention Center Sunday night, "Matisse" was crowned "National Champion" by Best in Show judge Mrs. Barbara Dempsey Alderman after a weekend of exciting competition.
