BWW Reviews: Many Mediums Make for a Spectacle in Company One's ASTRO BOY AND THE GOD OF COMICS

Telling the story of popular Japanese cartoon, Astro Boy, and his creator, Osamu Tezuka, the piece utilizes more mediums than I ever imagined possible for a stage piece. Not only were projections used, but controlled animation, live drawing, vocal effects, puppetry, and combinations of all of the above.

BWW Review: THE SECRET GARDEN Needs Nurturing

THE SECRET GARDEN needs a good dose of Miracle-Gro to overcome a lack of vitality. A beautiful, lush score is weighed down by the sluggishness of the tale and static direction. The company has the vocals to do justice to the music and several performers shine, but this garden has a dearth of color.

BWW Reviews: RENT Retains Its Relevance

At the end of the millennium, 'Rent' was a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner that went on to run for twelve years and 5,124 performances, making it the ninth-longest running Broadway musical. New Repertory Theatre stages an intimate and powerful production that shows the rock opera is still relevant with its message: No day but today.
