Next up at the Getty Villa Theater Lab, Guelan Varela-Luarca and Chay Yew’s The House of Baluyot: A Filipino Oresteia for two performances only November 18th and 19th. Guelan and Chay also direct this work-in-progress with the cast of Ramon de Ocampo, Tess Lina, Zandi De Jesus, Reggie Lee, Andres Paul Ramacho and Amielynn Abellera. Getty Villa Theater Lab will present The House of Baluyot: A Filipino Oresteia, an epic saga of power, displacement, and crime in an immigrant Filipino family in California.

The Outstanding Filipinos in America Awards honor the triumph of a 17-year-old Filipino tennis player, Alex Eala, who just won the grand slam juniors singles title at the U.S. Open--a first from any tennis player from the Philippines. Ms. Eala, who is now back to training in California, is conferred the TOFA Global Awards for Sports, given to global Filipinos who made exceptional achievements in their field of endeavor.

Abingdon Theatre Company will present the solo audio play “A Little More Blue” by Christine Toy Johnson Tuesday, June 7th on their website, followed by a talkback with Johnson hosted by Reggie Lee.

In April 2022, Abingdon Theatre Company will return to us live and in person, bringing us their main stage production of ‘Queen’s Girl in the World’ by Caleen Sinette Jennings. This piece, which will make its New York Premiere at Theatre Row, looks at one young woman’s journey of self-discovery at the onset of the Civil Rights-era.

Abingdon Theatre Company has announced three new Artists in Residence for their upcoming 29th Season beginning in the fall. Christine Toy Johnson, Ilda Mason and Matthew McLachlan are set to be the next participants in the Carolyn Halpert Artist in Residence Program which began in 2017.

Abingdon Theatre Company will present a short film of 'Empress Mei Li Lotus Blossom' written and directed by Christine Toy Johnson followed by a talk back with the writer and cast, moderated by Reggie Lee on May 25th at 7pm ET. This event is free. This piece is being screened in May to Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
