Signature Theatre will present A Little Night Music directed by Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Follies, Gigi). Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's Tony Award-winning musical, set in 1900 Sweden, revolves around a tangled web of love affairs. One In The Chamber, being presented at the Mead Theatre Lab, does attempt to politicize this issue, or attempt to come to a resolution. Rather, the play (first produced last fall in Los Angeles), shows the aftermath of one of these families in a raw and gritty production.

The new DC area theatre season begins in September. Over 50 shows are opening in our professional and community theatres. But before we move on to the new season and what's opening in September, let's look back at my personal favorite musicals, plays, and performances in both musicals and plays in the DC area - from August 2010 to August 2011.

Thank God for air-conditioning in our DC/MD/VA area theatres! In August it will be sizzling in our local theatres. Signature Theatre has its 'Sizzlin' Summer Cabaret' series with visits from Broadway favorites Marc Kudisch and Julia Murney, and Signature favorites Erin Driscoll, Sandy Bainum, and Lauren Williams. The talk of the town is Cate Blanchett visiting The Eisenhower Theatre at The Kennedy Center, where a hundred yards away Wicked is playing to SRO audiences (what else is new?).

Ganymede Arts is pleased to announce that this fall it will present the complete Falsettos masterpiece consisting of both March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland. The two acts of the Tony Award winning Falsettos, written by William Finn and James Lapine, were written nearly a decade apart and will be directed by Ganymede Art's artistic director Jeffrey Johnson. Christopher Wingert will musically direct the show.
