The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) announces it has been nominated for 10 AUDELCO (Audience Development Committee) Awards for its production of Malvolio.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem, a staple of artistic excellence in New York City for over two decades, announces its summer production of Malvolio, an irreverent comedy written by Mellon Foundation Playwright in Residence Betty Shamieh, as a sequel inspired by Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

Syracuse Stage is currently offering a world premiere play by resident playwright Kyle Bass. Tender Rain is an intriguing play and certainly stimulated hours of discussion on our drive home. It took time to unravel the events of the play's past and untangle the complex character relationships, like unsnarling knots out of a fine gold chain.

Next up in the 2022/2023 season at Syracuse Stage is the World Premiere of Tender Rain, written by Resident Playwright, Kyle Bass, and directed by longtime Syracuse University Department of Drama faculty member, Rodney Hudson, running May 3 -21, 2023. 

With a name lending new urgency to a rhyming couplet from the African-American spiritual 'Mary, Don't You Weep' ('God gave Noah the rainbow sign / No more water, the fire next time') the annual Fire This Time Festival has produced dozens of ten-minutes plays in its mission to 'provide a platform for early-career playwrights from the African diaspora to explore new directions for 21st century theater'.

FRIGID New York will present the 13th Annual The Fire This Time Festival at The Kraine Theater, July 7-10. The festival will feature World Premiere 10-minute plays by early career and under-represented playwrights from the African diaspora, co-directed by Zhailon Levingston and actor, writer, director and TFTT alum Tracey Conyer Lee. 

Harlem9, Harlem Stage, and the Lucille Lortel Theatre have teamed up to present the Consequences series. GHOSTS OF BLACKNESS, the last piece in the series is available virtually from August 7th through August 19th at https://www.lortel.org/ghosts-of-blackness/ free of charge.

Red Bull Theater today announced the selections for The 2021 Short New Play Festival, their eleventh annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes, featuring a World Premiere from José Rivera, alongside six brand new plays that have been selected from hundreds of open submissions from playwrights across the country.

San Jose Stage Company, in collaboration with African-American Shakespeare Company, has extended STRANGE COURTESIES. The play will now be available to stream through March 8, 2021.

San Jose Stage Company has announced the full cast and creative team for the virtual world premiere of the new play STRANGE COURTESIES, written and directed by L. Peter Callender.

Quick Silver Theater Company (QSTC) presented a staged reading of Pearl Cleage's latest play Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous, featuring Crystal Fox (A Fall from Grace, 'Big Little Lies,' Burden opposite Forrest Whittaker, 'The Haves and Have Nots') as Anna Campbell, Tony nominee and QSTC company member Pascale Armand (Eclipsed) as Precious Pete Watson, Tony nominee Brenda Braxton (Smokey Joe's Café) as Kate Hughes and Two-time Audelco Award winner Marjorie L. Johnson (Coleman Domingo's-Dot) as Betty Samson at the National Black Theatre, 2031 125th Street & National Black Theatre Way (5th Avenue) 10035 on February 20.

An evening at the theater does not get much better than New Theatre's “The Last Romance.” Joe DiPietro's “The Last Romance” is a rare example of a charming, tiny, four-person comedy-drama that rises to be an extraordinary production through the talent force of its actors and the care of its director.

Two River Theater presents Oo-Bla-Dee, written by Regina Taylor, featuring original lyrics by Taylor and original music by composer/orchestrator Diedre L. Murray, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. The choreography is by Kenneth L. Roberson and the music direction is by George Caldwell, with vocal arrangements by Carol Maillard.

Woodie King's New Federal Theatre has set four plays for the June, 2019 edition of its Annual Ntozake Shange Readings Series. The series will run four Tuesdays--June 4, 11, 18 and 25--with all readings at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street.

Dixon Place presents Glory!, a new play written by Nan-Lynn Nelson and directed by Kevin R. BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, the longest operating performance venue in lower Manhattan, in partnership with the New Federal Theatre, proudly presents the inaugural Hatitudes: A Tribute to the Grace and Style of Our Mothers on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13, 2018 with a reception at 2:00PM, followed by a performance at 3pm.

It was a swell family affair at Two River Theater last night as a searing and powerful production of Lorraine Hansberry's American classic A Raisin in the Sun, helmed by Carl Cofield and starring Brandon J. Dirden as Walter Lee Younger, his wife Crystal A. Dickinson as Ruth Younger, his father Willie Dirden as Bobo, Brenda Pressley as Lena Younger, Jasmine Batchelor as Beneatha Younger, Nat DeWolf as Karl Lindner, Charlie Hudson III as Joseph Asagai, Owen Tabaka as Travis Younger, York Walker as George Murchison, with Andrew Binger and David Joel Rivera as the Moving Men, celebrated opening night.

Just last week, Colman Domingo hosted Vineyard Theatre's Annual Emerging Artists Luncheon at The Gander (15 West 18th Street) in Manhattan.
