The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2017-2018 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, August 27, to patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party was generously hosted by Synchronicity Theatre, at 7:30pm, One Peachtree Pointe, 1545 Peachtree St. NE #102, Atlanta.  

We've barely welcomed June, and it's already sizzling hot here in Atlanta, so as we all head inside to foster meaningful relationships with our air conditioners, there are really two viable options for leisure time:  fight with randos about Donald Trump on Twitter until you legitimately expect that you might have a stroke or head to the theater for a few blissful hours of phone-free, air-conditioned joy.  Translation:  Go to the theater this summer.  It's good for your health. 

Calling all dancing queens and kings! Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus' Mamma Mia!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, is set to run at Aurora Theatre from March 8 - April 22, 2018. Mamma Mia! is one of the most successful musicals of all time, the eighth longest running show in Broadway history and one of only five musicals to have run for more than ten years on Broadway - grossing over $2 billion and bringing smiles to over 54 million worldwide. Aurora Theatre is proudly producing Atlanta's post-Broadway premiere of the feel-good show in the heart of downtown Lawrenceville!

STAGE DOOR PLAYERS (SDP) opens its 44th season with the thrilling drama, Dial M For Murder, by Frederick Knott on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Theatre's home in the North Dekalb Cultural Arts Center at 5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody.

Bringing audiences the biggest title ever produced by the North Georgia arts leader, the Aurora Theatre team unveils plans to present Mamma Mia! as part of the 2017-2018 Peach State Federal Credit Union Signature Series! Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus' Mamma Mia!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, is set to run from March 8 - April 22, 2018.

Prepare to be swept away by one of the most endearing love stories of all time! Aurora Theatre will dazzle audiences with its production of the timeless tale The Bridges of Madison County, on stage through April 16.

The Bridges of Madison County, a 2013 romantic tuner featuring music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown and a book by Marsha Norman, opened on Broadway in 2014, playing only 137 performances before its closing, and there are reasons for that.  The narrative arc is uneven, falling into an irritating habit of concentrating on insignificant peripheral events while leaving the important ones largely unexplored.  The musical also suffers from a clumsy, cloying ending that begs to be cut by a good 20 minutes.   In the hands of a less capable director, these significant script problems might be deal breakers, but under the direction of Justin Anderson, Aurora Theatre's Associate Artistic Director, the production still manages to be a grand affair. 

As part of its 2016-17 Peach State Federal Credit Union Signature Series, Aurora Theatre is pleased to announce the addition of two-time Tony Award-winning musical The Bridges of Madison County, playing March 9- April 16! Based on the popular novel by Robert James Waller, the highly anticipated production will star two of the region's leading actors Travis Smith (MEMPHIS and CHRISTMAS CANTEEN) and Kristin Markiton (INTO THE WOODS). Directed by Aurora's Associate Artistic Director Justin Anderson, musical direction will be led by Aurora co-founder and Associate Producer Ann-Carol Pence.

INTO THE WOODS, with music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, runs now through April 17, 2016 at Aurora Theatre Company. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
