Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and author Ayad Akhtar's (Arena's Disgraced) timely tale Junk. Inspired by the real junk bond giants of the 1980s, Akhtar explores how the riveting, hostile takeover of a family-owned manufacturing company paved the way to expose the rise of greed, power, race and wealth that led to reshaping the rules of Wall Street and the world. Directed by Jackie Maxwell, Junk runs April 5 - May 5, 2019 in the Fichandler Stage.
A rich, poetic tale full of ambiguity and suspense, The Last Witch reimagines the true story of the alleged Witch of Dornoch. Could Janet Horne really cure beasts, summon the wind and charm fish out of the sea? Or was she simply able to make others think she could? Did she actually practise witchcraft? Or was she simply a free-thinking woman, ahead of her time?
The award-winning Scottish Borders theatre company will be touring Scotland in February 2018.
Sedos, the City of London's premier amateur theatre company, deal with a highly sensitive legal and moral debate in their summer production of Whose Life Is It Anyway? at the company's resident home, the Bridewell Theatre, on 21-25 June.
It was only natural that former Los Angeles Times writer and current Deadline|Hollywood contributor Diane Haithman would one day turn the tables on the town she has covered with such precision for the last 25+ years. A writer after my own heart, she also knows her Shakespeare Ps and Qs.
Veteran stage actor Bob Ari stars as painter Mark Rothko. He has appeared on Broadway (FROST/NIXON, THE CONSTANT WIFE, BELLS ARE RINGING and LAUGHTER ON THE 23rd FLOOR), Off-Broadway and at regional theatres across the country, as well as landing parts in several television shows and movies. In 1968, Mart Crowley's viciously funny play 'The Boys in the Band' opened off-Broadway and created a sensation among New York theatre-goers. It stimulated a new awareness of Gay Culture, which became a catalyst for the Stonewall riots a few months later, and we've never been the same since! In 1970, it was a highly successful film directed by William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist), featured the original NY cast and was seen by millions worldwide. A brand new film documentary chronicling the The Making of the Boys and its impact was a hit at the recent Ft. Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

The play opened on Broadway with Richard Gere in the lead role which the New York Times deemed 'powerful and provocative.' When I saw that magnificent production co-starring David Dukes, I thought that BENT was certainly one of the greatest plays I had ever seen. Prior to Broadway, it premiered in London starring Ian McKellan. Audiences have been mesmerized and moved by its scathing depiction of the persecution and encampment of gay men and Jews in Third Reich Germany. This powerful play was subsequently turned into a film with Clive Owen and Mick Jagger in 1997.
