BWW Review: BLUE MAN GROUP is A Party Not To Be Missed

BLUE MAN GROUP is not your average stage show. BLUE MAN GROUP is a strange, zany, comical, and surreal experience. How do you describe the indescribable? Its not a musical, its not a play, its an experience. While performance art comes closest to categorizing them, what an audience experiences is really a unique communal party. Formed in 1991, BLUE MAN GROUP is best known for their creative stage productions around the world.

BWW Interviews: Kalen Allmandinger and Patrick Newton of BLUE MAN GROUP at Tennessee Performing Arts Center

Whether or not you are a sports fan for either of the professional Nashville sports teams, I'd like to be the first to prepare you for a possible sighting of a man or two performing off-Broadway with blue paint on their faces. However, these blue men aren't playing by the same rules. Let me just state the obvious, the Tennessee Titans have absolutely nothing on the Blue Man Group (BMG) returning to Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center with a new theatrical touring production. For this week only, the entirely new, high-impact visual performance will wow Nashvillians like never before in Andrew Jackson Hall. Here at BroadwayWorld Nashville, we had the chance to interview not one but two touring Blue Man professionals.

BWW Reviews: Engaging and Fun BLUE MAN GROUP at the Peabody Opera House

I've seen BLUE MAN GROUP live quite a few times, and on this particular occasion I brought along my son for his second go around with the show. What's appealing to me is that there's still a freshness about their performances, even if a lot of the bits are familiar, such as: the camera tour down an audience member's throat, the snarky message board, the various rock poses, etc. There's certainly no denying the fact that they continually draw large, enthusiastic crowds. The current production that played the Peabody Opera House (April 25-27) provided a cool evening's entertainment, for fans and newbies alike.

BWW Reviews: BLUE MAN GROUP Wows Audience at the Fox Theatre

While I've seen BLUE MAN GROUP live and on DVD, they're always tweaking their act so that it's a new experience each time you see them perform. Oh, they're smart enough to keep some of the old gags so that they remain familiar (the camera tour down an audience member's throat, the snarky message board, the interesting instruments),but there's enough current material added so that the group is consistently engaging no matter when you see them. The current production playing the Fox Theatre (through December 2, 2012) is a great evening's entertainment, and seeing it with my seven year old son in tow made it even more special.

BLUE MAN GROUP Comes to San Francisco May 24th - June 19th

On days when Kalen Allmandinger is feeling blue, it's actually a really great thing. In fact, he's required to be blue because he's part of the world renowned performance extravaganza known as Blue Man Group. This trio of bald, silent (think Charlie Chaplin on steroids), blue-latex-coated performers first took the world by storm in 1991 and hasn't stopped since. Created by Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton, Blue Man Group is set to appear at San Francisco's Golden Gate Theatre May 24 - June 19.

BWW Interviews: Kalen Allmandinger, one of the "Blue Men" in Blue Man Group at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, January 18 - 23.

If you have heard of Blue Man Group or experienced one of their previous productions or tours, you know how unique and exciting their world famous productions can be. Filled with experiences that defy categorization, Blue Man Group is best known for multi-media performances that feature three bald and blue characters who take the audience on a journey that is funny, intelligent and visually stunning. When the latest tour arrives at the Fabulous Fox Theatre January 18 - 23, however, Atlanta audiences, even those who have experienced the Blue phenomenon, are in for something new and exciting. Featuring classic moments and brand new content, this first theatrical production to tour North America is sure to please. The "Blue Men" are usually men of few (or more accurately, no) words, but I got one of them, Kalen Allmandinger, a veteran Blue Man, to speak long enough to tell me a little about himself, this exciting new production and why audiences of all ages are in for a real treat.
