Eglevsky Ballet Announces Summer Intensive Classes


In 2015, the Eglevsky Ballet engaged Maurice B. Curry as its new Executive Artistic Director. In two years, the Eglevsky Ballet has doubled the enrollment in its dance academy and now boasts ten educators and a resident artist. A full slate of year-round ballet classes and workshops are offered for students ranging from three years of age to 20 years old.

Seasoned choreographer Twyla Tharp presents two classic pieces and one New York City premier for her 2016 summer season at the Joyce Theatre.  Tharp's choreography ranges from intense to silly and playful blending classical ballet and modern lines with pedestrian movement.  While at times her choreography does not clearly fit together into a coherent piece, the works present a clear vision of contemporary dance choreography in three distinct pieces.

Cast Set for TWYLA THARP AND THREE DANCES at The Joyce Theatre


Twyla Tharp and Three Dances, the previously announced program conceived and directed by Twyla Tharp and featuring two classics and one premiere, will be presented by The Joyce Theater Foundation for two weeks next month, July 10-23, in its intimate Chelsea home, located at 175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street. Part of the Pathways to Dance Upstate/Downstate initiative, Twyla Tharp and Three Dances will feature a company of long-time Tharp dancers along with new members.  John Selya, Matthew Dibble, Daniel Baker, Ramona Kelley, Amy Ruggiero, Eva Trapp, Nicholas Coppula, Kaitlyn Gilliland and Reed Tankersley make up the company. On the program are two Tharp classics, Brahms Paganini and Country Dances, and a new work, Beethoven Opus 130, set to Beethoven's Opus of the same title having its world premiere at Saratoga Performing Arts Center on June 30. This presentation, one of the must-see cultural events of the summer, marks the first time Tharp's company will perform on The Joyce's stage in almost 12 years. Miro Magloire announces the February 26 & 27 performances of his New Chamber Ballet, an evening of Magloire works set to music by Ravel, Debussy, Schoenberg, and contemporary composers Friedrich Cerha and Beat Furrer.   The season will see the premiere of the complete Gravity and an excerpt from a new work to music by Ravel.  Joining the company for the February performances is Shoshana Rosenfield, former member of New York City Ballet.
