With book and lyrics by Anna Toledo and Jose Possi Neto, who also directs, the production has Claudia Raia as the protagonist and producer alongside Jarbas Homem de Mello, who plays Oswald de Andrade.

Diegues' now-iconic films had a historical emphasis and were among the first to bring Afro-Brazilian culture to life on film.
